Configuration Notes

Configuration Notes

This section describes the mirroring configuration notes.

When configuring mirroring, note the following points:

  • To prevent information from being lost during mirroring, you are advised to configure ports of the same type as observing and mirrored ports and set the same bandwidth for the two types of ports. If the bandwidth of an observing port is smaller than that of a mirrored port, information may be lost on the observing port during mirroring. If the bandwidth of the observing port is larger than that of the mirrored port, bandwidth of the observing port is wasted during mirroring.

  • A maximum of eight observing ports are allowed on a device.
  • A maximum of eight observing ports can be configured on the switch, and only one can be used at one time. An observing port can mirror both inbound and outbound traffic.

  • The switch can mirror packets on multiple ports to one observing port, that is N:1 mirroring.

  • A port cannot be configured as both a mirrored port and an observing port. An Ethernet or Eth-Trunk port can be configured as a mirrored port. An Eth-Trunk member port cannot be configured as an observing port.

  • In a stack, physical member interfaces do not support inter-chassis mirroring; the mirrored port and physical member interface that functions as the observing port must be on the same device.

  • If the mirrored port is an access port, the outbound packets mirrored to an observing port carry VLAN tags, different from original packets.

  • The following configurations for outbound traffic do not take effect for mirrored traffic:

    • Configure an ACL in which the rule is deny.

    • Configure traffic policing.

    • Configure WRED profiles.

    • Configure the traffic shaping rate.

    • Configure the queue scheduling mode.

outbound packets discarded on the mirrored port are still mirrored to the observing port.

  • When outbound mirroring is performed on TRILL packets sent from the user side to the network side, the source MAC address, destination MAC address, and VLAN ID encapsulated for the packets received by the observing interface are all 0s, but service data is correct.

  • In ERSPAN mode, the device cannot decapsulate ERSPAN packets.
