Configuring Congestion Management

When a network is congested intermittently, configure congestion management on the device. The device then determines the sequence at which packets are forwarded according to the defined scheduling policy and ensures that high-priority services are scheduled preferentially.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring congestion management, complete the following task:
  • Mapping the priority of packets to a PHB

Context

Each interface can be configured with a maximum of eight queues. Different queues can use different scheduling modes. The device schedules the PQ queue first. If multiple PQ queues exist, the device schedules the queues in descending order of priority. A larger queue index indicates higher priority of a queue. After all the PQ queues are scheduled, the device schedules the WRR or DRR queues in turn.

Procedure

  1. Run:

    system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run:

    interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  3. Run:

    qos { pq { start-queue-index [ to end-queue-index ] } &<1-8> | { wrr | drr } { start-queue-index [ to end-queue-index ] } &<1-8> }*

    The scheduling mode of queues on the interface is set to PQ+WRR or PQ+DRR.

    By default, all queues use PQ scheduling.

    NOTE:

    On the CX31x&CX91x series switch module 10GE switching planes and CX110 switch module GE switching plane, queues 0 to 5 can use WRR or DRR scheduling, and queues 6 and 7 can use only PQ scheduling.

  4. Configure the weight.

    • In WRR scheduling, run:

      qos queue queue-index wrr weight weight

      The weight for WRR scheduling is set.

      By default, the weight for WRR scheduling is 1.

    • In DRR scheduling, run:

      qos queue queue-index drr weight weight

      The weight for DRR scheduling is set.

      By default, the weight for DRR scheduling is 1.

  5. Run:

    commit

    The configuration is committed.

Checking the Configuration

  • Run the display qos configuration interface [ interface-type interface-number ] command to check all the QoS configurations on the interface.

  • Run the display qos queue statistics interface interface-type interface-number command to view queue-based traffic statistics on the interface.
