Replacing a System Enclosure

This section explains how to replace a storage node by replacing system enclosure for a Performance node.

Impact on the System

The Performance node must be powered off before replacement of a system enclosure. Therefore, the services running on the Performance node will be affected. Perform this operation with caution.

Prerequisites

  • A new system enclosure is available.
  • Before replacing the system enclosure, label the cables on the Performance node.

Precaution

Each Performance node has two power supplies. Ensure that both power supplies are disconnected.

Tools and Materials

  • Phillips screwdriver
  • ESD gloves
  • ESD wrist strap
  • ESD bag
  • Labels

Procedure

  1. Wear the ESD wrist strap or gloves. Follow these steps to put on the ESD wrist strap.

    1. Put on the ESD wrist strap.
    2. Fasten the latch to ensure a good contact between the strap and your skin.
    3. There are two types of ESD wrist straps, ESD jack and metallic clip.

      • When using a strap with a pin connector, insert the grounding terminal of the strap to the ESD hole on the chassis.



      • When using a strap with a clasp, attach the clasp to the square hold at the chassis side.



    4. Make sure the latch is closely locked and the grounding terminal has been inserted to the ESD hold or the clasp is attached to the chassis hole firmly.

  2. Use KVM to log in to the OS as user root (default password is Root@storage), then run poweroff to poweroff the node and wait for the shutdown to complete.

    Wait for the KVM screen to have no output, indicates that the shutdown has been completed.

  3. Label the cables on the Performance node and disconnect the Performance node from the power sockets and other devices.
  4. Remove the storage node from the rack.
    1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the M6 screws from the mounting ears, as shown in step 1 in Figure 3-63.
    2. Pull the storage node out of the cabinet along guide rails and place the storage node on an ESD table, as shown in step 2 in Figure 3-63.

  5. Take the new system enclosure out of its ESD bag.
  6. Remove main control board enclosure, power modules and service disk modules in the system enclosure that you want to replace and reinstall them in the new system enclosure.
    1. Remove main control board enclosure in the system enclosure that you want to replace and reinstall it in the new system enclosure, as shown in Figure 3-64 and Figure 3-65.

    2. Remove power modules in the system enclosure that you want to replace and reinstall them in the new system enclosure, as shown in Figure 3-66 and Figure 3-67.

    3. Remove all service disk modules from the system enclosure that you want to replace and insert them into the new system enclosure in original sequence, as shown in Figure 3-68 and Figure 3-69.

      Insert the service disk modules into the same slots in the storage node as in the replaced storage node. Otherwise, system services may be affected.

  7. Mount the storage node.
    1. Slide the storage node into the cabinet along guide rails, as shown in step 1 in Figure 3-70.
    2. Use M6 screws to secure the storage node in the cabinet, as shown in step 2 in Figure 3-70.
    3. Ensure that the storage node is horizontally installed and tightly screwed.

  8. Connect signal cables to the storage node according to the cable connection label.
  9. Check whether a new alarm is reported on the DeviceManager.

    • If yes, handle the alarm according to the alarm help.
    • If no, go to 10.

  10. Inspect the system using SmartKit. Choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > More > Inspection to check the system status. For details, see the OceanStor 9000 Routine Maintenance.

    • If all inspection items are successful: The inspection is successful.
    • If some inspection items fail the inspection: The inspection is failed. Rectify the faults by taking recommended actions in the inspection reports. You need to reperform inspection after rectifying. If the inspection is still failed, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After replacing the system enclosure, label the removed system enclosure for subsequent handling.
