Configuration Planning

Configuration Planning

Before data migration, plan the network and service takeover so that you can carry out the migration smoothly.

Network Planning

Figure 2-2 shows the planned network.

Enable the LUN copy feature.

Check the license file.

The license file is the credential that allows you to use the LUN copy feature.

Create a target LUN in the target device.

Create a disk domain.

Before creating a storage pool, a disk domain needs to be created. Because all the disks used to create a storage pool are in the disk domain.

Disk domain's name and disk type

  • Name
  • Disk Type
  • DiskDomain_BK
  • NL-SAS

Create a storage pool.

A storage pool is the basis for allocating storage space. It is similar to a container from which multiple LUNs can be created.

Storage pool parameters and option disks of the target device

  • Name
  • Disk Domain
  • RAID policy
  • Capacity
  • StoragePool_BK
  • DiskDomain_BK
  • RAID 6, 4D+2P
  • 1TB

Create a target LUN.

The storage space of a newly created storage pool cannot be identified by the host. You must divide the storage pool into LUNs before the host can use the storage space.

Target LUN information in the target device

  • Name
  • Capacity
  • Quantity
  • Owning Storage Pool
  • LUN_BK
  • 500 GB
  • 1
  • StoragePool_BK

Establish the logical connection between the source device and target device.

Add the target device as a remote storage system.

Establish the logical connection between the source and target storage systems, so you can migrate data between them.

You can establish the connection on either storage system.

Machine-machine account information of the remote device

A machine-machine account is used for communication between devices and cannot be used to log in to the storage system.

Create a LUN copy session in the target device.

Create a LUN copy session.

The LUN copy session enables complete data migration.

Basic information about the LUN copy

  • Name
  • Replication rate

  • If remote devices are OceanStor 18000 series V1R1C20, T series V2R2C20, or OceanStor V3 series V3R1C10 or later, you need to use the machine-machine user. The username is mm_user, and the default password is mm_user@storage.
  • If remote devices are OceanStor 18000 series V1R1C10, T series V2R2C10, or OceanStor V3 series V3R1C00 or earlier, you need to use the password of the super administrator or administrator account on the remote device.
