Application Scenarios

LUN copy can be used to create copies of different LUNs when a service is offline. The typical application scenarios of LUN copy involve data migration, distribution, and backup.

Data Migration

Data needs to be migrated in some circumstances such as storage system upgrade, service migration, and service trial operation. LUN copy facilitates data migration inside a storage system or between storage systems. Figure 1-2 shows the data migration between storage systems.

As for the LUN copy on an iSCSI network, you are advised to use a device such as a security gateway to encrypt links when adding the iSCSI links to ensure data transfer security among storage systems and prevent information leakage.

Data Distribution

LUN copy is an effective choice when an organization needs to distribute data from the data center at the headquarters to the data centers at branches.

LUN copy can have multiple target LUNs for a source LUN to enable rapid data distribution. Compared with traditional data copy methods, LUN copy is advantageous for its high data distribution speed. In addition, LUN copy is compatible both with OceanStor storage systems and Huawei certified third-party storage systems. Figure 1-3 describes how data is quickly distributed by LUN copy.

Centralized Data Backup

Some organizations need to transfer data from their branches to their headquarters. This centralized data backup requirement can be fulfilled by LUN copy, as shown in Figure 1-4.
