Creating a LUN Copy

Creating a LUN Copy

This operation enables you to create a LUN copy to copy data on a source LUN to a target LUN.

Prerequisites

Before creating a LUN copy, make sure:
  • The source LUN mapping has being deleted.
  • Each target LUN has a capacity not smaller than the source LUN.
  • LUNs on heterogeneous storage systems that are involved in LUN copies have been mapped to the local storage system, and the local storage system has detected those LUNs.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Creating LUN Copy Wizard: step 6-1 dialog box.
    1. On the right navigation bar, click .
    2. In the function pane on the left, click LUN Copy.

      The LUN copy management page is displayed.

    3. Click Create.

      The Creating LUN Copy Wizard: step 6-1 dialog box is displayed.

  2. Set a name and description for the LUN copy. Table 3-5 describes related parameters.

    Name of the LUN copy.

    Name a LUN in accordance with the associated value range so that the LUN is available to host applications.

    • The name must be unique.
    • The name cannot contain spaces and the following characters:

      ~ ` ! @ " # $ % ^ & * ( ) + = { } [ ] | \ : ; " ' < > , ? /

    • The name contains 1 to 31 characters.

  3. Set the properties of the LUN copy.
    1. Click Next.

      The Creating LUN Copy Wizard: step 6-2 dialog box is displayed.

    2. Set Copy Speed.

      The rate of a LUN copy can be Low, Medium, High, or Highest.

  4. Select a source LUN.
    1. Click Next.

      The Creating LUN Copy Wizard: step 6-3 dialog box is displayed.

    2. From the Source Device drop-down list, select a device as the source storage device.
    3. In Object Type drop-down list, Select LUN.

      NOTE:

      If you want to create a LUN copy, select LUN for the object type and created LUNs for the source and target LUNs. If you want to create a snapshot copy, select snapshot for the object type and created snapshots for the source and target LUNs. Creating a LUN copy is used as an example.

    4. In the source LUN list, select a LUN as the source LUN.
  5. Select a target LUN.
    1. Click Next.

      The Creating LUN Copy Wizard: step 6-4 dialog box is displayed.

    2. From the Target Device list, select a device as the target device.
    3. In Object Type drop-down list, Select LUN.

      NOTE:

      If you want to create a LUN copy, select LUN for the object type and created LUNs for the source and target LUNs. If you want to create a snapshot copy, select snapshot for the object type and created snapshots for the source and target LUNs. Creating a LUN copy is used as an example.

    4. From the Optional Target LUNs list, select the desired target LUN and click to move it to Selected Target LUNs.
  6. Confirm the creation of the LUN copy.
    1. Click Next.

      The Creating LUN Copy Wizard: step 6-5 dialog box is displayed.

    2. Confirm the information about the new LUN copy and click Finish.

      The Warning dialog box is displayed.

    3. Confirm the information in the dialog box and select I have read the previous information and understood subsequences of the operation.
    4. Click OK.

      The Creating LUN Copy Wizard: step 6-6 dialog box is displayed, indicating that the LUN copy is successfully created.

    5. Click Close.
