Introduction

The ET1D2MPUA000 is the main control unit for the S12704, S12708 and S12712. It provides the control plane and management plane for the entire system and reserves a slot for clock daughter card.

The ET1D2MPUA000 can be installed in:

  • Slots 05 and 06 in an S12704 chassis.
  • Slots 09 and 10 in an S12708 chassis.
  • Slots 13 and 14 in an S12712 chassis.

Functions

The ET1D2MPUA000 provides the control plane and management plane for the entire system.

  • The control plane provides functions such as protocol processing, service processing, route calculation, forwarding control, service scheduling, traffic statistics collection, and system security.
  • The management plane is responsible for system status monitoring, environment monitoring, log and alarm processing, system software loading, and system upgrades.

The ET1D2MPUA000 consists of the following functional modules:

  • Control module: functions as the control and management plane for the ET1D2MPUA000 and the entire system, implementing protocol processing, route calculation, forwarding control, system management, and system security.
  • Local clock module: provides the working clock for the chips of the control module, and device management and monitoring module on the ET1D2MPUA000.
  • Device management and monitoring module: provides functions of a controller area network (CAN) bus module to monitor the ET1D2MPUA000 and manage the CAN bus modules of LPUs.
  • Power supply module: provides power supply for the ET1D2MPUA000.
  • Value-added service module: provides enhanced services such as operation, administration and maintenance (OAM) and bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD).

Function Description

Basic functions

The ET1D2MPUA000 is the system control and management unit for the S12704, S12708 and S12712. It integrates the main control unit, clock unit, and system maintenance unit.

OAM

The ET1D2MPUA000 supports the following OAM functions:
  • 802.1ag: identifies, detects, and sends continuity check (CC) packets.
  • Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS OAM): identifies, detects, and sends MPLS OAM packets.
  • OAM UNCFG_MEP.

The system configuration data, startup files, system software package, and system logs are saved in the eUSB card by default.

Clock

The ET1D2MPUA000 can have LE0D00CKMA00 installed to provide stratum-3 clock, synchronous Ethernet, and IEEE 1588v2 functions in V200R010C00 and later versions.

Redundancy backup

1+1 hot standby

Main control board is mandatory for switches. Each switch must be configured with one or two main control boards. When one main control board is configured for a switch, the main control board can be installed in either main control board slot of the switch. When two main control boards are configured, the two main control boards work in hot standby mode to improve reliability of the switch. The active and standby main control boards monitor the status of each other. If the active main control board fails, the standby main control board automatically becomes active to ensure uninterrupted services.

Before removing the active card, perform an active/standby switchover.

Usage Constraints

  • Main control units of different models cannot be used in the same chassis.

  • The fans in a switch work in intelligent speed adjustment mode after a switchover between the active and standby main control units in the switch. If the fans run at a specified speed before a switchover, run the set fan-speed command after the switchover to set the fan speed again.

Steady on: The MPU is the master MPU of the CSS.

Off: The MPU is not the master MPU of the CSS.

Steady on: USB-based deployment of the card has been completed.

Fast blinking: The card is reading data from a USB flash drive.

Yellow

Steady on: The card has finished reading data from the USB flash drive. You can remove the USB flash drive now.

Red

Steady on: The card fails to connect to the network management system (NMS) or fails to register with the NMS.

Fast blinking: An error has occurred when the card is executing the configuration file or reading data from the USB flash drive.

Off: No USB flash drive is connected to the card, the USB port on the card is damaged, or the indicator is damaged.

Green

Steady on: The switch supports time and clock synchronization, and a clock daughter card is installed on the MPU.

Off: The switch supports time and clock synchronization, but no clock daughter card is installed on the MPU.

Steady on: The switch has a 1600 W DC power module or 2400 W DC power module installed or experiences a card failure. Manual intervention is required.

Yellow

Steady on: The card is powered off. (For example, the card is starting.)

1 One USB port. A USB flash drive can be inserted into this port to load the system software to the switch during device deployment.
2 Two BITS ports. The CLK1 and CLK2 ports on the MPU map the BITS0 and BITS1 ports on the clock daughter card. BITS devices or other products can connect to BITS ports to synchronize the time and clock.
3 Two GE ports (reserved)
4 One combo console port, consisting of a console port and a Mini USB port. The S12700 can connect to a configuration terminal through this port for onsite configuration.
5 One ETH management port (10M/100M BASE-TX auto-sensing). It can connect to a network port of a configuration terminal or network management workstation to set up a local or remote configuration environment.
ETH management port

The ETH management port connects the switch to a configuration terminal or network management workstation to set up a local or remote configuration environment. The port must be used with an Ethernet Cable. Table 7-7 describes the attributes of an ETH management port.

Combo console port

The combo console port can connect to a configuration terminal for onsite configuration. The Mini USB port and the Console cannot be used at the same time. Use one of them according to the actual situation.

The console port must be used with a Console Cable. Table 7-8 describes the attributes of the console port.
