Functions

The ET1D2SFUB000 provides the data plane for the entire system. The data plane provides high-speed, non-blocking data channels for data switching between service modules.

The ET1D2SFUB000 consists of the following functional modules:

  • Switching module: functions as the data plane and provides high-speed service channels for data switching.
  • Local clock module: provides the working clock for the chips of the switching module, management module, and monitoring module on the ET1D2SFUB000.
  • Power supply module: provides power supply for the ET1D2SFUB000.

If there are at least two SFUs installed and running properly on a chassis with ET1D2SFUB000 (except S12710), before removing one SFU, hold down the OFL button on the SFU until the OFL indicator blinks red or turns steady red. When the OFL indicator turns steady red indicating that the SFU is isolated from the system, you can remove the SFU. When an SFU is running normally, its RUN/ALM indicator blinks green slowly and its OFL indicator is off.

Steady on: The SFU has been separated from the system and can be removed from the chassis.

Blinking: The SFU is being separated from the system and cannot be removed from the chassis.

Off: The SFU is running and cannot be removed from the chassis.

RUN/ALM: running status indicator

Green

Steady on: The card has been powered on, but the software is not running.

Slow blinking: The card software is running properly.

Fast blinking: The card software is starting.

Red

Steady on: The card has failed and the fault requires manual intervention.

Yellow

Steady on: The card is powered off. (For example, the card has been forcibly powered off using the power off command or is about to start.)

1 Four 10GBASE SFP+ optical ports used for cluster connection between two chassis. They are multiplexed with the 40GE optical port. Either the 10GE ports or 40GE port can work at a time. By default, the four 10GBASE SFP+ optical port are used preferentially.
2 One 40GBASE-X optical port used for cluster connection between two chassis. It is multiplexed with the four 10GE optical ports.

Each ET1D2SFUB000 card has two port groups: group 1 with 10GE ports 1-4 and group 2 with 40GE port 1. Two chassis can set up a cluster only when the following requirements are met:
  • One SFU can be connected to only one SFU in the other chassis. It cannot be connected to more than one SFU in the other chassis or to an SFU in the local chassis.
  • Ports in group 1 on one SFU can only be connected to ports in group 1 on the other SFU. In addition, ports in group 1 on an S12710 chassis must be connected sequentially based on their numbers. The port in group 2 on one SFU can only be connected to the port in group 2 on the other SFU.
  • The two chassis must be connected by at least one cluster cable.
  • If one chassis uses SFUB cards and the other chassis uses SFUA, SFUC, or SFUD cards, the four CSS ports on an SFUB card can only be connected to the four ports in group 1 on a VS08 CSS card (at any sequence).
To keep cluster cables neat and facilitate maintenance, you are advised to connect the two chassis according to Figure 7-31 or Figure 7-32:
  • Connect at least two cables on each SFU.
  • Install at least two SFUs in each chassis.
