Setting Time and Date

Setting Time and Date

The MX210 records the current time and date using the real-time clock (RTC) circuit. The power of the circuit is provided by batteries. Time and date are used to record events. Switch module operations are not based on the time and date, but the logs, errors and troubleshootings are recorded based on time and date. Make sure that the time and date are correctly set.

Time Zone

You can set the time zone for the MX210 based on names. The parameters can be set to a country, a city and a time zone.

If the time zone is not re-configured, the MX210 will retain time deviation. The old option of the tsTimeZone restores the time zone format.

You can run tsTimeZone command to set the time zone. In addition, tsTimeZone provides the following functions:

  • Displays time zones provided by firmware.
  • Sets time zones based on countries, cities or time zone codes. For example, set time zone to Pacific Standard Time (PST).

Time zone setting provides the following features:

  • Time zone setting can be viewed by all users. Time zone can be set only by the management account.
  • tsTimeZone is automatically adjusted based on Daylight Saving Time (DST).
  • Local time zone setting can be updated by changing the time zone on the switch module. The change is displayed in local time calculation.
  • The time zones of the MX210s are set to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) (0, 0) by default.

If the MX210s on the Fabric network are in the same time zone, you are recommended to adopt the default value.

  • The time zone setting will take effect after restart for system services that have already been enabled.
  • The active/standby failover will not change the time setting to ensure high availability.

Setting the Date

Set the date for MX210s.

  1. Set the user name and password for login.

    • Set user name to admin.
    • Set password to Huawei12#$.

  2. Enter the date command in the following format, including the double quotation marks (").

    date "mmddHHMMyy"

    The parameters are as follows:

    • mm indicates month, and the value ranges from 01 to 12.
    • dd indicates date, and the value ranges from 01 to 31.
    • HH indicates hour, and the value ranges from 00 to 23.
    • MM indicates minute, and the value ranges from 00 to 59.
    • yy indicates year, and the the value ranges from 00 to 99.

      70-99 indicates 1970-1990, and 00-69 indicates 2000-2069.

Setting the Time Zone

The time zone of each MX210 can be set only once, and the setting will be stored to the nonvolatile storage device.

Set the time zone using any of the following methods. Choose the actual time zone or the time zone of the country where the MX210 mezzanine switch module is located.

    1. Log in to the MX210.
    2. Run the tstimezone command.

The command syntax is as follows:

The command output for the US/Central time zone is shown as follows:

      FC_SW:admin> tstimezone
      Time Zone : US/Pacific
      FC_SW:admin> tstimezone US/Central
      FC_SW:admin> tstimezone
