Current Alarms

Function Description

The Current Alarms page allows you to view active alarms that have not been cleared.

Page Description

On the menu bar, choose Alarm & SEL. In the navigation tree, choose Current Alarms. The Current Alarms page is displayed.

Severity

Specifies the system event severity.

Value: Critical, Major, or Minor.

  • : a critical alarm may power off the server, and even interrupt system services. You need to take corrective action immediately.
  • : a major alarm has major impact on the system. It may affect the normal operating of the system or interrupt services.
  • : a minor alarm has minor impact on the system but you need to take corrective action as soon as possible to prevent a more serious alarm.

Event Type

Specifies the type of the component for which events were generated.

Event Description

Specifies the description of an alarm.

Generation Time

Specifies the time when system events were generated.

Event Code Specifies the unique identifier of an alarm.
Suggestion Specifies the processing method for alarm.

Setting method: Click .

Procedure
  1. In the Current Alarms page, click next to an event type to view alarm details, and click to collapse alarm details.

System Event

Function Description

The System Event page allows you to view and search for system events, and download and delete all system events.

Page Description

On the menu bar, choose Alarm & SEL. In the navigation tree, choose System Event. The System Event page is displayed.

Status

Specifies the status of a system event.

Value:

  • Asserted: indicates that an system event is generated.
  • Deasserted: indicates that an system event is cleared.
Event Code Specifies the unique identifier of a system event.
Suggestion Specifies the processing method for a system event.

Setting method: Click .

Procedure

Searching for System Events

  1. On the menu bar, choose Alarm & SEL.
  2. In the navigation tree, choose System Event.

    The System Event page is displayed.

  3. Set criteria and search. For details about the parameters, see Table 3-16.

    Specifies the system event severity.

    Value: All, Critical, Major, Minor, or Normal

    Setting method: Select an option from the drop-down list.

    Event type

    Specifies the type of the component for which events were generated.

    Value: the value range varies according to the server model.

    Setting method: Select an option from the drop-down list.

    Generation time

    Specifies the time when system events were generated.

    Value: Today, Recent 7 days, Recent 30 days, and Custom.

    Setting method:
    • Select an option from the drop-down list.
    • While selecting Custom, you should set the start and end time in the displayed box.

    Event description or code

    Specifies the description or code of a system event.

    Value:
    • Any consecutive character string in the event description.
    • A complete event code, which can contain 0x or not.

    Setting method: Enter a value in the text box, and click or press Enter.

Deleting All System Events

Deleted system events cannot be restored. Exercise caution when deleting system events.

  1. On the System Event page, click Clear Logs.

    A confirmation dialog box is displayed.

  2. Click OK.

    All events are deleted.

Downloading All System Events

  1. On the System Event page, click Download All.

    The Save dialog box is displayed.

  2. Select a local directory for saving the downloaded file.
  3. Click Save.

    The downloaded file is saved to the specified directory on the local PC. You can view system event logs in this file.

Alarm Setting

Function Description

The Alarm Setting page allows you to perform the following operations:

  • Configure iBMC to send logs as syslog packets to a third-party server.
  • Configure iBMC to send alarms, events, and trap properties to a third-party server by trap.
    NOTE:

    Traps are information that iBMC proactively sends to a third-party server without receiving any request. Trap information includes events and critical, major, and minor alarms.

  • To notify the users, send alarms and events generated by the server to specified mailboxes by email over a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server.
Page Description

On the menu bar, choose Alarm & SEL. In the navigation tree, choose Alarm Setting. The Alarm Setting page is displayed.

Syslog Function

Specifies whether syslog packets are sent automatically.

Setting method: Click to enable this function or to disable this function.

Set Syslog Properties

Syslog Server Identity

Identifies the syslog message source.

Values:

  • Board Serial Number
  • Product Asset Tag
  • Host Name

Setting method: Click an option button.

Alarm Severities

Specifies the severities of alarms to be reported as syslog packets to a third-party server.

Values: All, Critical, Major, Minor, and Normal

NOTE:
The options are described as follows:
  • All: indicates that events and minor, major, and critical alarms are sent.
  • Critical: indicates that only critical alarms are sent.
  • Major: indicates that only major alarms are sent.
  • Minor: indicates that only minor alarms are sent.
  • Normal: indicates that only events are sent.

Setting method: Select or deselect the check boxes.

Transmission Protocol

Specifies the protocol used for transmitting syslog packets between iBMC and the syslog server.

Values:

  • TLS: indicates a connection-oriented protocol that ensures confidentiality and integrity of the transmitted data.
  • TCP: indicates a connection-oriented protocol that establishes a reliable connection between the sender and the receiver before data transmission.
  • UDP: indicates a connectionless protocol that does not establish a connection between the sender and the receiver before data transmission.

Setting method: Click an option button.

Authentication Mode

The authentication mode needs to be set when Transmission Protocol is TLS.

Values:

  • One way authentication: Only the syslog server certificate is authenticated.
  • Mutual authentication: Certificates of both the syslog server and the client are authenticated.

Setting method: Click an option button.

Server Root Certificate

This server root certificate is used to authenticate the packets sent from the syslog server before establishing connections.

Setting method: Click Browse to select a server root certificate file from the local client.

Certificate information

Indicates information about the server root certificate uploaded. Information includes the issuer, user, validity period, and serial number.

Local Certificate

When a connection is being established, packets sent from iBMC to the syslog server contain local certificate information, which is used by the syslog server to authenticate the syslog client (iBMC).

Setting method: Click Browse to select a local certificate file from the local client.

Certificate Password

Indicates the password used to decrypt the local certificate. The password is automatically generated when the certificate server is used to generate a local certificate.

Certificate information

Indicates information about the local certificate uploaded. Information includes the issuer, user, validity period, and serial number.

Configure Syslog Server and Packet Format

No.

Indicates the channel for sending syslog packets. You can define a maximum of four channels.

Current Status

Indicates whether the channel is enabled.

Server Address

Indicates the address of the syslog server.

Syslog Port

Indicates the port number of the syslog server.

Log Type

Indicates the type of logs in the syslog packets.

Test

Used to test whether the syslog channel is available.

Testing method: Click Test for a channel. If the message "Operate Success" is displayed, the channel is available.

Click . The following parameters are displayed:

Current Status

Specifies the enablement status of a channel.

Setting method: Click for a channel. If the icon changes to , the channel is enabled.

Server Address

Specifies the address of the syslog server.

Values: IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or domain name

NOTE:
  • This parameter must be a domain name when Transmission Protocol is TLS.
  • If the address is a domain name, you must set correct DNS information on the Config > NetWork Settings page.

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Syslog Port

Specifies the port number of the syslog server.

Value range: 1 to 65535

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Log Type

Specifies the type of logs in syslog packets.

Values: All, Operation Logs, Security Logs, and Event Logs

Setting method: Select or deselect the check boxes.

Trap Function

Specifies whether to enable the function for automatically reporting traps.

Setting method: Click . If the icon changes to , the trap function is enabled.

Trap Protocol Version

Specifies the SNMP trap protocol version used for reporting traps.

The options are as follows:
  • V1: indicates the first official SNMP trap version, which is defined in Request for Comments (RFC) 1157.
  • V2C: indicates an enhanced version of SNMPv2. SNMPv2c, an experimental protocol defined in RFC 1901, adopts a community-based management architecture.
  • V3: indicates the SNMPv3 protocol defined in RFC 3411-RFC 3418. SNMPv3 enhances security and remote configuration features.
NOTE:
  • SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c may cause security risks due to their own mechanisms. Avoid using them when possible. SNMPv3 trap is recommended.
  • You can set the authentication and encryption algorithms for SNMPv3 trap. For details, see System Settings.

Default value: V1

Setting method: Click an option button.

Choose Trap V3 User

Set the user name only when SNMPv3 trap is used.

Setting method: Select an option from the drop-down list. By default, the root user is used by SNMPv3 trap.

Trap Mode

Specifies the mode for reporting trap information.

Value
  • OID mode: the OID of an SNMP node is used as the ID of a Trap event.
  • Event code mode: The event code is used as the ID of a Trap event.

How to set: Click an option button.

Trap Server Identity

Identifies the trap message source.

Value:
  • Board Serial Number
  • Product Asset Tag
  • Host Name

How to set: Click an option button.

Community Name

Specifies the SNMP community name, which is used for trap authentication. Community Name is available only when Set Trap Properties is set to V1 or V2C.

If the password complexity check function is disabled, the value is a string of 1 to 18 characters, including letters, digits, and special characters except spaces.

If the password complexity check function is enabled, the value must meet the following requirements:
  • Must be a string of 8 to 18 characters.
  • Must contain at least one of the following special characters:

    `~!@#$%^&*()-_=+\|[{}];:'",<.>/?

  • Must contain at least two types of the following characters:
    • Uppercase letters: A–Z
    • Lowercase letters: a–z
    • Digits: 0–9
  • Does not contain spaces.
  • The new community name must differ from the old one in two character positions.

Default value: TrapAdmin12#$

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Confirm Name

Confirms the SNMP community name. The value must be the same as that of Community Name.

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Select Alarm Severities

Specifies the severities of alarms to be reported to a third-party server by trap.

Value: All, Critical, Major, Minor, or Normal

NOTE:
The options are described as follows:
  • All: indicates that events and minor, major, and critical alarms are sent.
  • Critical: indicates that only critical alarms are sent.
  • Major: indicates that only major alarms are sent.
  • Minor: indicates that only minor alarms are sent.
  • Normal: indicates that only events are sent.

Setting method: Select one or more check boxes.

Index

Defines a trap channel for sending alarms. You can define a maximum of four channels.

Test

Tests whether a trap channel is available.

Testing method: Click Test for a trap channel. If the message "Operation Succeeded" is displayed, the channel is available.

Click . The following parameters are displayed:

Current State

Specifies whether to enable a trap channel.

Setting method: Click for a trap channel. If the icon changes to , the channel is enabled.

Trap Server IP Address

Specifies the server address for receiving alarms sent by trap. The server address can be an IPv4 or IPv6 address.

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Trap Port

Specifies the port number for receiving alarms sent by trap.

Value range: 1 to 65535

Default value: 162

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.
NOTE:

To restore the trap port number to the default value 162, click Restore Defaults.

Packet Delimiter

Specifies the delimiter that separates the keywords in a trap. For example, ;.

Setting method: Click an option button.

Select Packet Content

Select the keywords to be reported.

Setting method: Select one or more check boxes.

Display Keyword in Packet

Specifies whether to contain the specified keywords in a trap.

Setting method: Select or deselect the check box.

NOTE:
After you select or deselect the check box, an example is displayed next to the check box based on your settings.

SMTP Function

Specifies whether to enable the SMTP function.

Setting method: Click . If the icon changes to , click Save. The SMTP function is enabled.

SMTP Server Address

Specifies the IPv4 or IPv6 address of the SMTP server.

NOTE:

iBMC does not support domain name resolution. You can enter only the SMTP server IP address instead of the SMTP server domain name in the SMTP Server Address text box.

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Allows TLS Enabled

  • Specifies whether to enable transport layer security (TLS) for transmission.
  • If TLS is disabled, data is transmitted in plain text.

Setting method: Click an option button.

NOTE:
By default, the SMTP server supports TLS. You are advised to enable TLS for security purposes. If TLS is enabled, you need to configure identity authentication for the SMTP server. The SMTP server can receive emails only after TLS is enabled.

Allows Anonymous Login

  • Specifies whether the SMTP server allows anonymous authentication. The value Yes indicates that no user name or password is required for authentication when alarm emails are forwarded by the SMTP server. The anonymous authentication function requires the SMTP server to support anonymous login.
  • The value No indicates non-anonymous authentication. If you click the No option button, you need to enter the user name and password registered with the SMTP server. The user name and password are required for authentication when iBMC sends alarm emails to the SMTP server.

Setting method: Click an option button.

NOTE:
By default, the SMTP server does not allow anonymous authentication. You are advised to click the No option button for security purposes.

Sender's User Name and Password

Specifies the user name and password used for sending alarms by email.

The user name and password must be the same as the user name and password set on the SMTP server.

Value range:
  • User name: a string of 1 to 64 characters, consisting of letters, digits, and special characters. It cannot be left blank.
  • Password: a string of 1 to 50 characters
NOTE:

If the SMTP function is disabled, Sender User Name and Sender Password can be empty.

Sender's Address

Specifies the email address from which alarms are sent.

Value: a string of up to 255 characters

Setting rule: The value can contain letters, digits, at signs (@), and special characters. The value must be in the format of xx@xxx.xx.

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Email Subject

Specifies an email subject.

Value: a string of 0 to 255 characters

Setting rule: The value can contain letters, digits, and special characters.

Setting method:
  1. In the Email Subject text box, enter an email subject.
  2. Select the Host Name, Board serial number, and Product asset tag check boxes for Contained in Email Subject.

    The email subject will contain these keywords.

Select Alarm Severities

Specifies the severities of alarms to be sent through the SMTP server.

Value: All, Critical, Major, Minor, or Normal

NOTE:
The options are described as follows:
  • All: indicates that events and minor, major, and critical alarms are sent.
  • Critical: indicates that only critical alarms are sent.
  • Major: indicates that only major alarms are sent.
  • Minor: indicates that only minor alarms are sent.
  • Normal: indicates that only events are sent.

Setting method: Select one or more check boxes.

Set Email Addresses for Receiving Alarms

Specifies an email address for receiving emails. The address has been registered with the SMTP server.

Value: a string of up to 255 characters

Setting rule: The value can contain letters, digits, at signs (@), and special characters. The value must be in the format of xx@xxx.xx.

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Description

Provides supplementary information about an email address for receiving emails.

Value: a string of 0 to 255 characters

Setting rule: The value can contain letters, digits, and special characters.

Setting method: Enter a value in the text box.

Test

Tests whether an email address for receiving emails is reachable.

Enable

Specifies whether to enable an email address.

Setting method: Click for an email address. If the icon changes to , click Save. The email address is enabled.

Procedure

Setting Syslog Notification Parameters

  1. On the menu bar, choose Alarm & SEL.
  2. In the navigation tree, choose Alarm Setting.

    The Alarm Setting page is displayed.

  3. Set syslog notification parameters by referring to Table 3-17.
  4. Click Save.

    If the message "Operation Succeeded" is displayed, the setting is successful.

Setting Trap Notification Parameters

  1. Set trap notification parameters by referring to Table 3-18.
  2. Click Save.

    If the message "Operation Succeeded" is displayed, the setting is successful.

Setting Email Notification Parameters

  1. Set email notification parameters by referring to Table 3-19.
  2. Click Save.

    If the message "Operation Succeeded" is displayed, the setting is successful.
