Enabling a WAC to Manage New APs Running Later Versions
Run the display ap-type all command on a WAC to check the types of APs that it can manage.
From V200R019C00, WACs can work with APs running two later R versions. However, information about new AP models added in the new versions is not preset on WACs running earlier versions. In this case, how does a WAC running an earlier version manage such APs?
The following uses a WAC in V200R019C00 and AirEngine 5760-51 added in V200R019C10 as an example.
Procedure (CLI)
- Add an AirEngine 5760-51 offline to the WAC.
By default, the WAC in V200R019C00 does not support the AirEngine 5760-51. Therefore, the AirEngine 5760-51 cannot go online on the WAC.
- Run the display ap-type undefined record command to check the types of the APs that fail to connect to a WAC because they are not supported by the WAC.
<HUAWEI> display ap-type undefined record ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ AP type Type ID Report AP MAC Report Time ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ AirEngine5760-51 130 0001-2211-12FE 2020-05-28/23:39:00 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Total : 1
- Run the auto create ap-type { type-id type-id | type type-description | all } command to automatically import these undefined AP types to the WAC.
After the command is executed, the import result is displayed.
- If an AP type fails to be automatically imported, run the ap-type type-description type-id type-id command to manually add the type of the new AP in a later version.
When manually adding an AP type, check the mapping between AP types and IDs by referring to AP Type Names and IDs in the Quick Reference for WLAN AP Version Mapping and Models. Ensure that the mapping between type-id and type-description is correctly configured. Otherwise, the AP fails to connect to the AC.
Currently, central APs and matching RUs cannot be added to WACs.
- Run the display ap-type all command to check whether the AP type is successfully added. If Configuration method of the new AP type is configure(normal), the AP type is added successfully and the AP has reported detailed parameters.
<HUAWEI> display ap-type all -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ID Type Configuration method -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...... 39 AP8130DN default 40 AP8030DN default ...... 130 AirEngine5760-51 configure(normal)
Procedure (Web)
- Log in to the web platform. Choose
- Expand the Undefined AP Type List area and check the types of APs that fail to connect to the WAC because the WAC does not support these AP types.
- Click Add AP Type or Add All to automatically import AP types in the list to the WAC.
- If any AP types fail to be imported, expand the AP Type List area and click Add. Manually add the types of APs running later versions.
When manually adding an AP type, check the mapping between the AP type name and ID by referring to AP Type Names and IDs in the Quick Reference for WLAN AP Version Mapping and Models. Ensure that the configured AP type name and ID match each other. Otherwise, APs of the new type will fail to connect to the WAC.
Currently, central APs and matching RUs cannot be added to WACs.
- In the AP Type List area, verify that the AP type is added successfully.
