What Are the Differences Between Fast Roaming and Non-Fast Roaming?
After fast roaming to a new AP or AC, a STA does not need to be re-authenticated. In non-fast roaming mode, however, the STA needs to be re-authenticated in this case.
The STA itself determines whether to use fast or non-fast roaming. If the STA supports PMK caching and carries PMK ID information in the association request after roaming, the STA can carry out fast roaming. If the fast roaming conditions are not met, the STA performs non-fast roaming and needs to be re-authenticated.
