Case Study: STAs Encounter Weak Signals in the Coverage Area Due to Incorrect Installation Directions of Antennas
Symptom
The strength of Wi-Fi signals in the coverage area of an AP is weak.
Relevant Alarms and Logs
None
Cause Analysis
- At a site outside China, the omnidirectional antenna of an outdoor AP8150DN is horizontally installed instead of vertically installed. The radiation pattern of an omnidirectional antenna is similar to a donut, so the incorrect installation direction reduces the coverage radius.
- At a carrier site, directional antennas are not installed in the required coverage direction. As a result, the signal strength in the target coverage area is weak.
Procedure
- Install omnidirectional antennas on antenna ports directly or using feeders, and adjust the antennas in a vertical downward direction.
- Adjust the panel of directional antennas to face the coverage area. Use CloudCampus APP to align the antennas or use a laser pointer to estimate the coverage area.
Suggestion and Summary
Omnidirectional antennas should be vertically installed to form a donut-like radiation pattern. To meet this requirement, install antennas according to the network plan. Most directional antennas are panel antennas. You can view basic information about directional antennas, especially the horizontal and vertical azimuths. Install a directional antenna regarding the center of the panel as the origin.
