I Bought a Wi-Fi NIC That Is Claimed to Comply With 802.11a/b/g/n. Why Are 5 GHz AP Signals (AP Working on Channel 149) Not Detected Using This NIC?
The 5 GHz signals work on three frequency bands: low frequency (LF) (5150–5250 MHz), intermediate frequency (IF) (5250–5350 MHz), and high frequency (HF) (5725–5825 MHz). The LF and IF bands are supported in China, but the Radio Association of China authorizes only the 5.8 GHz frequency band. Therefore, in China, the 5 GHz APs works on radio channels that use the 5.8 GHz frequency band. These optional channels include channels 149, 153, 157, 161, and 165. Many types of NICs in the market support the 5.2 GHz frequency band but not the 5.8 GHz frequency band. To connect your NIC to 5 GHz AP signals, you can change the AP's working channels to the channels in LF or IF bands.
