An AC Fails to Be Upgraded
Symptom
An AC fails to be upgraded or downgraded.
Possible Causes
- There is insufficient available storage space on the AC.
- The AC upgrade file does not match the AC model.
- The AC software version is incompatible.
- The network between the file server and the client is disconnected.
- The user name or password of the file server is incorrect.
- The AC upgrade file is changed.
Troubleshooting Procedure
- Check whether a PC can successfully ping the AC.
- Access the Windows command line interface (CLI) on your PC, and run the ping command to check whether the PC can successfully ping the AC.
C:\Users\xxxx> ping 192.168.0.1 Pinging 192.168.0.1, with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Ping statistics for 192.168.0.1: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% lost) Estimated RTT (ms): Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
If the message "Request time out" is displayed, the target device is unreachable.
- If the PC fails to ping the AC, change the IP address of the AC or PC.
To change the IP address of the AC, perform the following steps:
- Run the display ip interface brief command in any view on the AC to check whether the IP address of the AC is correctly configured.
- If the IP address is incorrect, run the ip address ip-address { mask | mask-length } command in the interface view to reconfigure the IP address of the AC.
- After the IP address is modified, run the ping command on the PC again to check whether the PC can successfully ping the AC.
- Access the Windows command line interface (CLI) on your PC, and run the ping command to check whether the PC can successfully ping the AC.
- Check whether the user name and password of the file server are correct.
When you load the system software through a file server, ensure that the FTP, SFTP, or TFTP service is enabled on the file server and the user name and password are correctly configured.
- Perform the following operations to check whether the AC can access the file server.
Assume that the IP address of the file server is 192.168.0.2, and the user name and password are huawei and huawei123, respectively.
- For the FTP server:
<AC6605> ftp 192.168.0.2 Trying 192.168.0.2 ... Press CTRL+K to abort Connected to 192.168.0.2. 220 FTP service ready. User(192.168.0.2:(none)):huawei 331 Password required for huawei. Enter password: 230 User logged in.
If the system prompts you to enter the user name and password, the FTP service is enabled on the file server. You need to enter the user name and password to access the file server.
- For the SFTP server:
<AC6605> system-view [AC6605] ssh client first-time enable [AC6605] sftp 192.168.0.2 Please input the username: huawei Trying 192.168.0.2 ... Press CTRL+K to abort Enter password: sftp-client>
If the system prompts you to enter the password after you entered the user name, the SFTP service is enabled on the file server. You need to enter the password to access the file server.
- For the TFTP server:
No user name or password is required for the TFTP server. You can upload a local file on the AP to the file server to check whether the TFTP service is enabled on the file server. If the file is successfully uploaded, the TFTP service is enabled on the file server.
The following uses the local file test.txt as an example.
<AC6605> tftp 192.168.0.2 put test.txt
- For the FTP server:
- If the FTP, SFTP, or TFTP service is disabled, enable the service on the file server.
For details, see the help information of the corresponding server.
- When a PC functions as the FTP, SFTP, or TFTP server, you are advised to temporarily disable the firewall and check whether the AC can access the file server.
- If the user name and password are incorrect, reconfigure the user name and password.
You are advised to configure a password that consists of letters and digits but no special characters.
- Perform the following operations to check whether the AC can access the file server.
- Check whether the AC has sufficient available storage space.
- Log in to the AC, and run the dir command in the user view to check whether the remaining space on the flash memory or SD card is sufficient for storing the system software package to be upgraded.
<AC6605> dir Directory of flash:/ Idx Attr Size(Byte) Date Time(LMT) FileName 0 -rw- 889 Feb 25 2015 10:00:58 private-data.txt 1 -rw- 6,311 Feb 17 2015 14:05:04 backup.cfg 2 -rw- 836 Jan 01 2015 18:06:20 rr.dat 3 drw- - Jan 01 2012 18:08:20 syslogfile 4 -rw- 836 Jan 01 2015 18:06:20 rr.bak 5 drw- - Feb 27 2015 00:00:54 security 6 -rw- 523,240 Mar 16 2015 11:21:36 bootrom_53hib66.bin 7 -rw- 2,290 Feb 25 2015 16:46:06 vrpcfg.cfg 8 -rw- 812 Dec 12 2015 15:43:10 hostkey 9 drw- - Jan 01 2015 18:05:48 compatible 10 -rw- 25,841,428 Nov 17 2015 09:48:10 basicsoft.cc 11 -rw- 540 Dec 12 2015 15:43:12 serverkey 12 -rw- 26,101,692 Dec 21 2015 11:44:52 devicesoft.cc 13 -rw- 6,292 Feb 14 2015 11:14:32 1.cfg 1,927,220 KB total (1,130,464 KB free)
The command output shows that there is 1,130,464 KB available flash space. Compare the remaining flash space with the space required for upgrading the system software package. If the remaining flash space is insufficient for the upgrade, delete useless files from the flash memory.
- Run the delete command to delete unnecessary files from the flash memory. Ensure that there is sufficient space to store upgrade files. Before deleting the files, ensure that the files to be deleted are backed up or no longer needed. The following shows an example of deleting the earlier version AC6605V200R003C00.cc from the flash:/ directory.
<AC6605> delete /unreserved flash:/AC6605V200R003C00.cc Warning: The contents of file flash:/AC6605V200R003C00.cc cannot be recycled . Continue? (y/n)[n]:y Info: Deleting file flash:/AC6605V200R003C00.cc...succeed.
- Log in to the AC, and run the dir command in the user view to check whether the remaining space on the flash memory or SD card is sufficient for storing the system software package to be upgraded.
