Optical Module: The Transmit Optical Power of an Optical Module Is in the Normal Range, but Many Packets Are Dropped Due to Bit Errors on the Optical Interface
Symptom
The transmit optical power of an optical module is in the normal range, but many packets are dropped due to bit errors on the optical interface.
Possible Causes
The optical fiber link is faulty, for example, the connector attenuation of the optical fiber exceeds the attenuation threshold, or the optical fiber is bent seriously.
Procedure
- Use an optical power meter to test whether the receive power of the optical module is normal. Perform the test on the receive end of the optical fiber.
- If the receive power is too low, check whether the optical fiber link is faulty. If so, this fault is often caused by high insertion loss of the connector or the bending of the optical fiber.
- If the fault persists, replace the optical module to check whether the fault is caused by the optical module itself.
