Case Study: PoE Adapters Fail Because APs Are Not Properly Grounded
Symptom
PoE adapters are used to supply power to outdoor APs at a site. After a surge protector is installed, the PoE failure rate is high.
Relevant Alarms and Logs
None
Cause Analysis
The neutral wire of the power cable is short-circuited with the ground wire, and the ground wire is in poor contact. As a result, the surge energy cannot be discharged in time, and the installed surge protector fails to provide surge protection.
Procedure
- Separately connect the neutral wire and ground wire of the high-current cable and ensure that the ground impedance of the ground wire is less than 10 ohms.
Suggestion and Summary
When installing an outdoor AP, ensure that the AP is properly grounded and the high-current power supply is properly grounded. Otherwise, the installed surge protector may fail to provide surge protection.
