Terminal Does Not Display Anything Or Displays Garbled Characters

Fault Description

After a terminal connecting to a router starts, it cannot display anything or displays garbled characters.

Possible Cause

  • The power module of the router is faulty or the router is not powered on.

  • The serial interface connecting to the router is incorrectly configured.

  • The cable between the terminal and router is faulty or not firmly connected to the serial interface.

Troubleshooting Roadmap

  • Check the power module indicators to determine whether the power module is faulty.

  • Ensure that the serial interface is correctly configured.

  • Install the cable firmly or replace the cable.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. Check the power module indicators. If the indicators are in normal state, the power module is not faulty. If the indicators are in abnormal state, the power module is faulty. If the indicators are in abnormal state, the power module is faulty. For troubleshooting methods of the power module, see 10.1-Power Module Troubleshooting (CE12800).
  2. Check whether the COM port on your PC is correctly connected. Ensure that the physical attributes of the COM port are the same as those of the serial port. The default parameter values are as follows:

    • Baud rate: 9600

    • Data bit: 8

    • Stop bit: 1

    • Parity check: None

    • Flow control: None

  3. Check whether the cable type is correct. The Console cable delivered with the product is recommended. Check whether the cable is securely connected. Replace the current cable with a new one to check whether the cable is faulty if necessary. If the fault is rectified, the console cable is faulty.
