BFD Sessions and BGP Peer Relationships Flap and an Alarm Is Generated Indicating that the Number of Routes Exceeds the Upper Limit

Problem Description

On the VXLAN network shown in Figure 19-2, server leaf nodes are CE6860EI switches. An alarm is generated on a server leaf node, indicating that the number of routes exceeds the upper limit. BFD sessions and BGP peer relationships frequently flap, causing a packet forwarding failure.

Root Cause

The number of routes exceeds the upper limit.

Solution

Perform the following steps to locate and rectify the fault:

  1. Log in to the device where packets fail to be forwarded and check alarm information.
    Run the display alarm active command to check active alarms on the device. The command output shows an alarm indicating that the number of routes exceeds the upper limit. The alarm cause is 351, indicating that some network segment routing entries cannot be delivered. As a result, some IPv4 or IPv6 service traffic is interrupted or forwarded incorrectly.

  2. Check the current resource mode of the device.

    Run the display system resource command to check the resource mode of the device. standard indicates that the resource mode is standard mode.

  3. Change the resource mode of the device to large routing table mode.

    After changing the resource mode, restart the device to make the change take effect.

  5. After a period of time, the alarm indicating that the number of routes exceeds the upper limit is cleared. The BFD session status and BGP peer status are normal, and packets are forwarded normally, indicating that the fault is rectified.
