Transmit Power of an Optical Module Is Too Low

Possible Causes

An optical module's actual transmit power measured by an optical power meter is lower than the nominal transmit power of the power module. The possible causes are:
  • Bores of the optical module are contaminated.
  • The laser transmitter circuit of the optical module is faulty.

Procedure

  1. Check the bores of the optical module. If the bores are contaminated, use a cotton swab to clean the bores. Then check whether the transmit power restores to the normal range. Use a dust cap to cover the bores of an idle optical module.
  2. If the transmit power of the optical module is still low, install another optical module on the interface or move the problematic optical module to another interface to determine whether the optical module itself is faulty. If so, send the optical module back to the supplier for repair or contact technical support personnel.
