An LPU cannot register.

Common Causes

  • The LPU is not properly installed.

  • The LPU becomes faulty.

  • The device does not support the LPU model.

  • The device power is insufficient.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. Check the power module and alarm information.

    • Run the display device alarm hardware command to check whether alarms about the LPU are generated. If the command output contains alarms about abnormal voltage or components, the LPU becomes faulty. Replace this faulty LPU and contact technical support personnel.

    • Run the display device power system command to check whether the device power is sufficient. If the device power insufficient, use more power modules.

  2. Check whether the LPU model is supported.

    Obtain the LPU model from the paper label on the upper right corner of the LPU's front panel or from the LPU's electronic label. Run the display version command to query the device software version. Check whether the software version supports the LPU model.

    To get information about the LPU models supported by software versions, see CloudEngine 12800 Series Switches Hardware Description - cards.

  3. Remove and reinstall the LPU.

    The LPU connects to an MPU through the inter-board communication channel. If the communication channel fails, the LPU cannot start. Perform the following operations to rectify the LPU fault:

    1. Remove the LPU from the slot and check whether the LPU connector is intact. If there are idle pin holes on the card connector, the LPU connection is damaged. Check whether any pins are bent on the card connector. If some pins are bent, replace the backplane.

    2. Reinstall the LPU and ensure that the LPU connector and backplane are correctly connected. Then check whether the LPU can register.

  4. Reinstall the LPU into another slot.

    Install the LPU to another slot to check whether it can register successfully.
    • If not, a fault occurs on the LPU. Replace the LPU.

    • If so, install another LPU that can successfully register to the same slot as the faulty LPU and check whether the LPU can register. If the LPU cannot register, a fault occurs on the backplane or MPU.

  5. Remove and reinstall the MPU.

    If two MPUs are installed, remove and reinstall the active MPU, and check the MPU connector according to step 3. After the active/standby switchover is performed, remove and reinstall the other MPU. If the fault is rectified, the MPU is not properly connected to the backplane. This operation is not recommended in an environment having key services.

  6. Collect LPU startup information through the console port.

  7. Collect the following information and contact technical support personnel:
    • display diagnostic-information

    • display device power

    • display device power system

    • display device alarm hardware

    • display device elabel

    • Indicator status of power modules and cards

    • Common user file and diagnostic log file

    • Startup information collected in step 6
