Fan Noise Is Loud

Fan Noise Is Loud

Fault Description

A switch is running normally and no fan alarm is generated; however, fans produce loud noise.

Possible Causes

  • The fan speed is high.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. Run the display device fan command to check the fan speed.

  2. If the fan speed is high, run the set fan-speed slot slot-id percent percent command to reduce the fan speed. The following is an example:

    <HUAWEI> system-view
    [~HUAWEI] diagnose
    [~HUAWEI-diagnose] set fan-speed slot 1 percent 50

Before running the set fan-speed command, check whether the equipment temperature is normal. If the equipment temperature is too high, check whether the switch is faulty or whether the ambient temperature is high. If the so, rectify the fault of the switch or lower the ambient temperature first.

Reducing the fan speed may cause overtemperature of the switch. Therefore, exercise cause when using this command.

  3. If the fan noise is still loud after you reduce the fan speed, run the upgrade fan command to upgrade the software version of the fans. The following is an example:

    <HUAWEI> system-view
    [~HUAWEI] diagnose
    [~HUAWEI-diagnose] upgrade fan slot 1

During the upgrade, the fans will run at the full speed in a short period of time.

  4. If the fault persists, use a new fan module.
