A Card Cannot Be Powered On

Fault Description

A card cannot be powered on, and its RUN/ALM indicator is steady yellow.

Common Causes

  • No fan modules are working for the slot where the card is installed.

  • The available power of the system is not enough for the card.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. Check whether fan modules are available for the slot where the card is installed. If not, install fan modules in the slots.

    Full configuration of fan modules is recommended for a switch. If fan modules for some slots are absent, cards in these slots may fail to be powered on. For example, on a CE12804 switch (see Figure 10-3), FAN1 and FAN2 work for slot 1 and slot 2. If FAN1 and FAN2 are absent, cards in slot 1 and slot 2 cannot be powered on.

  2. Use either of the following methods to check the available power on the switch:
    • Run the display device power system command to check the total power available. If the power insufficient, use more power modules.

    • Use the Hardware Configuration Tool to calculate the number of power modules required. If there are not enough power modules for the switch, install more power modules.

  3. If the problem persists, contact technical support.
