Troubleshooting Procedure

Troubleshooting Procedure

After commands are configured to troubleshoot faults, pay attention to the configuration validation mode to ensure that the configurations take effect. Unless otherwise specified, this manual defaults to the two-phase validation mode.

  • In immediate validation mode, the configuration takes effect immediately after you run a command and press Enter.
  • In two-phase validation mode, you must run the commit command after commands are configured to commit the configuration.

Save the results of each troubleshooting step, so you can provide related information to Huawei technical support if your troubleshooting fails.

  1. Check whether the activated license supports the VS function.

Run the display license command to check whether the currently activated license supports the VS function or whether the license expires.

    <HUAWEI> display license
     Active License : LICORTF66173-EC93618A3F_CloudEngine12800.dat
     License state : Demo
     Revoke ticket : No ticket
R&D of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
     Product name : CloudEngine 12800
     Product version : V100R001
     License Serial No : LIC20130418009850
Creator : Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.
     Created Time : 2013-04-18 12:32:18
     Feature name : CELIC
     Authorize type : demo
     Trial days : 60
Item name Item type Value Description
     DE0S00MPLS01 Function 1 DE0S00MPLS01
     DE0S0TRILL01 Function 1 DE0S0TRILL01
Master board license state: Demo. The license for the current configuration wil
    l expire in 84 days.
Apply for authentic license before the current license expires.

The VS function is controlled by a license. By default, the VS function is disabled on a new device. If the Item name field does not display DE0S0000VS01, the currently activated license does not support the VS function. Activate the license that controls the VS function.

  2. Check whether the VS name is invalid.

You can configure a name for each VS to memorize VSs. The VS name is a string of 1 to 31 case-insensitive characters without spaces and must start with a letter. It can contain letters, digits, hyphens (-), and underlines (_).

  3. Check whether the number of existing VSs exceeds the limit.

Run the display virtual-system command to check the number of configured VSs.

    <HUAWEI> system-view
    [~HUAWEI] admin
    [~HUAWEI-admin] display virtual-system
         Name Status
    0 Admin-VS running
    1 vs1 running
    2 vs2 stop

If the number of configured VSs has reached the limit, run the undo virtual-system vs-name command to delete some unnecessary VSs and then create some VSs.

  4. Check whether the interface assignment mode is configured for the VS.

Run the port-mode { group | port } command to check whether the interface assignment mode is configured for the VS.

    <HUAWEI> system-view
    [~HUAWEI] admin
    [~HUAWEI-admin] virtual-system vs1
    [*HUAWEI-admin-vs:vs1] port-mode group
Error: Port mode has been configured to virtual system.

When creating a VS, you must specify the interface assignment mode for the VS so that the VS can enter the running state.

  5. Check whether logical resources are sufficient.

Run the display virtual-system resource command to check whether the system has sufficient logical resources to assign to new VSs.

    <HUAWEI> system-view
    [~HUAWEI] admin
    [~HUAWEI-admin] display virtual-system resource

    m4route -- 4294967295 20000 4294947295 4294937295
    u6route -- 4294967295 2000 4294965295 4294964295

    vlan GROUP 12288 4063 8225 8225

    mpls GROUP 16 1 15 15
    trill PORT 1 0 1 1
    trill GROUP 16 1 15 15
    mcast PORT 1 0 1 1
    mcast GROUP 16 1 15 15
    vpn-instance PORT 1024 64 960 896
    vpn-instance GROUP 12288 1024 11264 11264

If the system does not have sufficient logical resources, reduce the logical resources assigned to other VSs or delete some unnecessary VSs.

  6. Check whether the VS configuration takes effect.

Run the commit command to commit the configuration. Then run the display virtual-system command to check whether the VS configuration takes effect. If no VS is created, go to step 8.

  7. Collect the following information and contact technical support personnel.

    • Results of the preceding troubleshooting procedure

    • Configuration files, logs, and alarms of the devices
