Electrical Safety

This topic describes server electrical safety information.

Observe the following electrical safety precautions:

  • To ensure device and personal safety, use power cables supported by the server.
  • The power cables are used only for the X6800. Do not use the power cables for other devices.
  • Before connecting or disconnecting cables, ensure that all external components are disconnected from the system power supply.
  • Disconnect all power cables when powering off the server.
  • Disconnect the server from the system power supply to avoid electric shocks before moving the server.
  • Before installing or removing a component, disconnect its power cable and then the signal cable. Disconnect the system power supply if needed.
  • Use only one hand to connect or disconnect a cable to avoid electric shocks that may occur when you touch two different electrodes with both hands.

Place electrostatic-sensitive components such as mainboards and hard disks in ESD bags to prevent ESD damage. Observe the following ESD precautions:

  • Wear an ESD wrist strap when operating the server.
  • Check that all installation preparations are made before taking a component out of the ESD bag.
  • You can touch the metal shell of a component when it is stored in an ESD bag.
  • Hold a component such as a mainboard by its edge. Do not touch electronic pins or welding joints on the component.
  • Place a component on the ESD bag after taking it out of the ESD bag.
