Safety Precautions

Safety Precautions

When installing, operating, or maintaining a device, observe all safety precautions described in the document to ensure device and personal safety.

NOTE:
  • The dangers, warnings, cautions, and notes in this document are only supplements to the safety precautions.
  • Only personnel certificated or authorized by Huawei can replace or alter the server or components based on product documents.

DANGER:
  • To avoid electric shocks, do not touch the connectors on power cables or communication cables.
  • Do not look into the optical port without eye protection.
  • Wear a pair of eye-protective glasses when you hammer, drill, or weld a component, cut a cable, secure a spring, use solvent, or in any other situation that may cause injury to your eyes.

DANGER:
  • Ensure that no one is in the area with potential danger before you power on the server.
  • Ensure that all power cables are disconnected when powering off the server.

CAUTION:
  • Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves to prevent ESD damage.
  • The static electricity on the human body may damage electrostatic-sensitive components on a circuit board. You are advised to wear ESD clothes.

NOTICE:

Do not exert excessive force when inserting or removing server components to prevent damage to the components, such as pin twisting or short circuits.

When installing or maintaining the server, read and observe the following safety precautions:

  • Precautions for a rack

Reserve sufficient space around the rack. Make sure that there is no barrier that blocks air flows to ensure optimal ventilation and cooling.

  • Precautions for a chassis
    • Stand firmly and then exert even force to lift a heavy object. Do not abruptly move or turn your body when lifting it. Do not lift an object heavier than 18 kg (39.69 lb) by yourself.
    • Install server nodes in appropriate slots for ease of cooling. If the chassis is not fully configured, do not install server nodes in adjacent slots.
    • To ensure surge protection and prevent interference, the ground cable of the chassis must be connected properly. To ensure device and personal safety, good grounding is required for the chassis. The resistance between the chassis and the earth must be less than 0.05 ohm.
    • Check that the chassis has sufficient power supply to support the maximum power of the server nodes in the chassis.
  • Precautions for components
    • Keep the area where the chassis components are located clean and keep the components far away from heat generating devices, such as a radiator.
    • Ensure that the chassis is properly grounded when you install or remove a component.
    • Tighten screws using a tool to secure a component after you install the component.
    • Ensure that your sleeves are tightened or rolled up above the elbows. For safety purposes, do not wear jewelry, watches, glasses with metal frames, or clothes with metal buttons.
    • Before you operate a device, secure it to the floor or another stable object, such as a wall or rack.
    • Disconnect all power cables when powering off a component.
