Connecting an Optical Fiber

This topic describes how to connect an optical fiber to a server node.

Insert an optical module into an optical port before connecting an optical fiber.

To avoid damage to an optical module:

  • Do not exert excessive force to remove or insert it.
  • Do not frequently or quickly remove or insert it.

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Remove the dust-proof cap from an optical module. See step (1) in Figure 3-20.
  3. Insert the optical module into an optical port until you hear a "click" sound. See step (2) in Figure 3-20.

Before inserting an optical module, ensure that the buckle of the optical module is fully closed.

  4. Remove the fiber protective cap. See step (3) in Figure 3-20.

Do not look into the optical port without eye protection.

  5. Vertically insert the optical fiber into the optical module until you hear a "click" sound. See step (4) in Figure 3-20.
