Configuring the Management Module

Configuring the Management Module

This topic describes the initial configuration process and procedure for the management module using a local PC.

Initial Configuration Process

After a management module is installed, you need to configure it so that the management module can manage all components in the chassis. Figure 4-2 shows the initial configuration process for the management module.

Figure 4-2 Initial configuration process

Procedure

  1. Log in to the management module.
    • If the client runs Linux:
  2. Connect the client to the management network port on the server.
  3. Run the ssh ipaddress command on the terminal tool (for example, shell) to log in to the management software CLI. (In the command, ipaddress indicates the IP address of the management network port.)
    NOTE:

At the initial startup of the management module, wait for about 3 minutes before you log in to the CLI.

  • If the client runs Windows:
  1. Download and install the Secure Shell (SSH) client communication tool.
  2. Connect the client to the management network port on the server.
  3. Enter the IP address, user name, and password of the management network port on the client communication tool to log in to the management software CLI.
  4. Check the management module version.

Run the version command to query management module version information, and ensure that the version information meets site requirements.

  5. Change the initial password.

Run the ipmcset -d password -v username command to change the initial password.

    • Administrators can change the passwords of all users.
    • Operators and common users can change their own passwords only.
      NOTE:

Run the passwordcomplexity command to check whether the password complexity check function is enabled, and ensure that the new password meets the following requirements:

      • If the password complexity check function is disabled, a password can be empty or a string of up to 20 characters.
      • If the password complexity check function is enabled, the new password must meet the following requirements:
      • Must contain 8 to 20 characters.
      • Must contain at least one space or one of the following special characters:

        `~!@#$%^&*()-_=+\|[{}];:'",<.>/?

      • Must contain at least two types of the following characters:
      • Lowercase letters (a-z)
      • Uppercase letters (A-Z)
      • Digits (0-9)
      • Cannot be the same as the user name or user name in reverse order.
  6. Configure basic data.

Run the ipmcset -d ipaddr -v <ipaddr> <mask> command to change the IPv4 address of the management network port.

    NOTICE:

After the IP address is set, the setting takes effect immediately. You need to relog in to the management software CLI using the new setting.

Table 4-3 describes the parameters in this command.
