Configuring the SMTP Function on the iBMC WebUI

Configuring the SMTP Function on the iBMC WebUI

Enable the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) function on Alarm & SEL > Alarm Setting of the iBMC WebUI.

The SMTP function enables the iBMC to send alarms and events to specified mailboxes by email over an SMTP server.

  • SMTP server address
  • Sender information:
    • User name and password of the sender
    • Email address of the sender
    • Email subject
  • Email addresses of recipients

  1. Log in to the iBMC WebUI.
  2. Choose Alarm & SEL > Alarm Setting.
  3. In the Alarm Email Notification Settings area, set SMTP Function to .
  4. Enter the SMTP server address in the SMTP Server Address text box.

The address can be an IPv4 or IPv6 address.

  5. Set TLS Enabled as required.

To enable data to be transmitted in ciphertext, click Yes. To enable data to be transmitted in plain text, click No.

    • By default, the SMTP server supports TLS. You are advised to enable the TLS function for security purposes.
    • After enabling TLS on the iBMC WebUI, enable TLS and configure identity authentication on the SMTP server so that the SMTP server can receive emails from the iBMC.

  6. Set Anonymous Login Allowed.

    • If anonymous login is allowed, the SMTP server transfers alarm emails without authenticating user name and password.

    • If anonymous login is not allowed, the SMTP server transfers alarm emails only after the correct user name and password are entered. The user name and password must have been set on the SMTP server.

By default, the SMTP server does not allow anonymous login. For security purposes, do not use anonymous login.

  7. Set email information.
    1. Set Sender User Name and Sender Password if Anonymous Login Allowed is set to No.

If Anonymous Login Allowed is set to Yes, Sender User Name and Sender Password need not be set.

If the password has been changed on the SMTP server, you must also change the password on the Alarm Settings page of the iBMC WebUI.

    2. Set Sender Address.
    3. Enter the subject in Email Subject and select the content to be included in the subject from Email Subject Contains.

For example, if you select Host Name and Board serial number, the email subject will contain the host name and board serial number.

  8. Under Set Alarm Severities, select the severities of alarms to be sent through the SMTP server.
  9. Set email addresses for receiving alarms.
    1. Enter the recipient address and description (if any).
    2. Click to switch it to .
  10. Click Save.
  11. Click Test to check whether an email can be successfully set to the specified recipient.

If "Operation successful" is displayed, the test email is successfully sent to the specified mailbox. Check whether the email was received.
