Restoring Default iBMC Settings

Scenario

Restore the default iBMC settings when the iBMC configuration data is damaged or the iBMC cannot start or be accessed.

You can use U-Boot commands or a jumper to restore the default iBMC settings.

  • Only Huawei technical support personnel or personnel authorized by Huawei can perform this operation.
  • Default iBMC settings can only be restored on-site.
  • All user settings, including user names, passwords, and IP addresses, will be restored to defaults. Perform this operation with caution.
  • Back up data and network before restoring iBMC default settings.

Default iBMC configurations can be restored using U-Boot commands or the jumper. Table 4-58 lists the product models and supported restoration methods.

NOTE:

The following methods are available to restore default iBMC configurations of the iBMC:

  • Use the U-Boot commands to restore the default iBMC configurations if you can log in to the U-Boot over a serial port.
  • Use a jumper to restore the default iBMC configurations if the U-Boot and iBMC are inaccessible.

Procedure

  • To restore iBMC default settings using U-Boot commands, perform the following steps:
    1. Use PuTTY to log in to the server.

      For details, see chapter "Logging In to a Server over a Serial Port Using PuTTY".

    2. Press and hold the UID button on the server for 6 seconds to restart the iBMC.
    3. When "Hit 'ctrl + b' to stop autoboot: 1" is displayed, press Ctrl + B.
    4. Enter the default U-Boot password.

      The default password of U-Boot is Huawei12#$.

      If "u-boot>" is displayed, you have successfully logged in to U-Boot.

    5. Run the following command to query the U-Boot version:

      printenv ver

    6. Restore datafs.

      • If the U-Boot version is 1.1.37 or earlier, run the following commands:

        fsload /usr/upgrade/datafs.jffs2

        datafs_cp

      • If the U-Boot version is later than 1.1.37, run the following command:

        datafs_reset

    7. Run the following command to restart the iBMC:

      reset

      The restart process takes about 3 minutes. After the iBMC restarts, the iBMC default settings are restored.

  • To restore iBMC default settings using the jumper, perform the following steps:
    1. Back up data.

      Back up data and network before restoring iBMC default settings.

    2. Remove the server node from the chassis.
    3. Locate the jumper.

      The jumper number varies depending on the server model. Table 4-59 provides the jumper ID and silkscreen information. For details bout the location of the jumper, see "Mainboard Layout" in the user guide of the server you use.

    4. Use a jumper cap or a tool to short-circuit the jumper.
    5. Install the server node in its original slot.
    6. Press and hold the UID button for 6 seconds to restart the iBMC while keeping the jumper short-circuited.

      The restart process takes about 3 minutes. After the iBMC restarts, the iBMC default settings are restored.

      NOTE:

      Disconnect the jumper after the iBMC default settings are restored. Otherwise, the default settings are restored each time when the iBMC restarts.
