Configuring the DNS on the iBMC WebUI (Manually)

Operation Scenario

On the Network Settings page of the iBMC WebUI, you can configure the Domain Name System (DNS) so that users can use domain name addresses to access the iBMC.

  • A domain name address is the combination of a host name and a domain name. For example, if the host name is huawei, and the domain name is, the domain name address is
  • The DNS is a distributed database specifies the mapping between domain names and IP address for the Internet. It enables users to access the Internet without memorizing IP addresses that can be directly read by hosts.



Obtain the following information:

  • The iBMC host name.
  • DNS server information:
    • The address of a DNS server
    • The domain name of a DNS server


  1. Log in to the iBMC WebUI. For details, see Logging In to the iBMC WebUI.
  2. Choose Config > Network Settings.
  3. In the Config iBMC Host Name area, set Server Name to the iBMC host name, for example, huawei.
  4. Click Save.
  5. Choose Config > Network Settings.
  6. In the Set DNS Parameters area, click Manually set DNS address.

    After clicking Manually set DNS address, you can manually configure the DNS server domain name, preferred DNS server address, and alternate DNS server address.

  7. Set the DNS address.
    1. Set Domain to the DNS server domain name, for example,
    2. Set Preferred Server to the IP address of the preferred DNS server, for example,
    3. Set Alternate Server to the IP address of the alternate DNS server.
    4. Click Save.
  8. On the local PC connected to the iBMC, set the local DNS address to the DNS server address.

    Ensure that the local DNS address is the same as the iBMC DNS address. Otherwise, the local PC cannot connect to the iBMC over the Internet.

  9. In the address box on the browser, type the domain name address, for example,, and press Enter. If the iBMC WebUI is displayed, the configuration is successful.
