Functions and Features

uMate is a tool used in the acceptance, deployment, and maintenance scenarios of Huawei servers. It supports Huawei rack servers, blade servers, and high-density servers and provides a GUI and CLI. It provides the inspection, log collection, firmware upgrade, and BIOS/BMC/HMM/RAID configuration functions and all functions support batch operations.

The concurrency quantity of the inspection function ranges from 1 to 20. The default value is the total number of CPU cores of PCs where the inspection is performed minus 1 (to avoid that the CPU usage of the inspection is too high). For example, if the number of CPU cores of PCs where the inspection is performed is 4, the concurrency quantity of the inspection function is 3. For other functions, the concurrency quantity can be set to 1 to 50, and the default value is 20. For details about how to set the concurrency quantity, see Configuring uMate. Table 1-1 lists the time required for inspection, log collection, and firmware upgrade respectively when the network is in normal status and the PC where the operations are to be performed has sufficient resources. The actual time that is required depends on the resources on the site. Data in the table is used for reference only.

NOTE:

The concurrency quantity indicates the number of servers where batch operations are performed by uMate at a time.

The CLI supports the inspection, log collection, firmware upgrade, BIOS configuration, and virtual media mounting functions.

The GUI supports the following functions:

  • Inspection function: helps users obtain the health status of devices and implements quick server detection.
  • Log information collection function: helps users determine hardware health status based on collected log information.
  • Firmware upgrade function: helps users upgrade server firmware.
  • Power control function: helps users power on, power off, and restart servers.
  • BIOS configuration function: helps users perform BIOS configuration for servers.
  • BMC configuration function: helps users perform BMC configuration for servers.
  • HMM configuration function: helps users perform HMM configuration for MM910s.
  • Virtual media mounting function: helps users mount virtual media or folders to servers.
  • RAID configuration function: helps users perform RAID configuration for servers.
  • Burn-in test function: helps users perform tests for CPUs, memory, hard disks, and link error codes of servers.
  • BIOS configuration information export function: helps users export BIOS configuration information to local PCs.
  • Switch module pre-upgrade evaluation function: helps users perform evaluations before switch modules are upgraded.
NOTE:

uMate allows only read operations during PMI and log collection and does not collect customers' service information. After a PMI or log collection is complete, uMate automatically deletes the log collection script and files.

The uMate features are as follows:

    uMate can be used directly after the software package is decompressed locally. Windows and Linux OSs are supported.

  • User-friendly interfaces

    uMate provides a GUI and CLI.

  • Easy operations

    Users can perform operations as prompted and batch operations are supported.
