Viewing and Updating the Driver

On the ESXi System Customization screen, select Troubleshooting Mode Options. On the Troubleshooting Mode Options screen, select Enable SSH, as shown in Figure 5-1. Then press Enter to save settngs and exit.

Use a terminal tool (for example, Xshell) to log in to the ESXi command line interface (CLI) over SSH, and run the following commands to view the NIC device information, firmware version, and driver version, as shown in Figure 5-2.

View the PCI device and the installed Emulex NIC.

~#lspci | grep Emulex

View the firmware version and the Ethernet driver (be2net) version.

~#ethtool –i vmnic6

View the driver versions for be2net and lpfc.

~#esxcli software vib list | grep be2net
~#esxcli software vib list | grep lpfc

Load the be2net and lpfc driver files over sftp to an ESXi directory, for example, /tmp. A driver file is in the format of *.zip. Decompress the file first, obtain the *-offline_bundle-*.zip file, and then run commands to install the drivers, as shown in Figure 5-3. After the installation is complete, reset the ESXi for the new drivers to takes effect.
