Data Recovery

After the primary site of a remote replication session fails, the secondary temporarily takes over services of the primary site. When the primary recovers, services are switched back to the primary site. This section describes how the storage system recovers from a site failure. This section will help you with remote replication configuration, site recovery, and fault analysis in disaster recovery scenarios.

After the primary site recovers, data is switched from the secondary site to the primary site. Then the primary site can provide services again. Figure 1-4 shows how the storage system recovers data at the primary site after a disaster.

NOTE:

In an asynchronous remote replication scenario, the storage system performs data synchronization multiple times until the data difference between the primary and secondary file system is comparatively small. Then, the storage system stops services and performs the last synchronization. This prevents data loss and minimizes the downtime.
