S12700E Clustering Using Service Ports
Context
The S12700E-4, S12700E-8, and S12700E-12 switches support service port clustering.
For details about cluster configuration precautions, see "CSS Support and Version Requirements" in the Configuration Guide - Device Management.
- When installing a copper cable, optical module, or optical fiber, you can determine that it has been installed properly after hearing a click.
- When removing a copper cable, optical module, or optical fiber, push its connector or handle slightly and then pull it out.
- Ensure that the bend radius of the copper cables or optical fibers is greater than the minimum bend rand required. For more information, see the Hardware Description.

Procedure
- Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. When wearing an ESD wrist strap, ensure that the ESD wrist strap is in a close contact with your wrist, and insert the other end in the ESD jack of a cabinet/rack.
- Install LPUs in the planned slots of the switches, as shown in Installing a Card.
- Attach number labels on both ends of the cluster cables.
- Connect the stack ports with cluster cables.
You are advised to install MPUs in between CSS cards.
Service ports are connected in two ways according to link distribution:
- 1+0 networking: Each member switch has one logical CSS port and connects to another member switch through the physical member ports located on the same service card.
- 1+1 networking: Each member switch has two logical CSS ports, and physical member ports of the logical CSS ports are located on two service cards. Cluster links on the two service cards implement link redundancy. The preceding figure shows the cable connections in this networking.
When connecting cluster cables, pay attention to the following points:- Physical member ports of a logical CSS port on one switch must connect to physical member ports of a logical CSS port on the other switch.
- In 1+1 networking, it is recommended that two service cards have the same number of cluster links.
To ensure reliability, pay attention to the following points when using the preceding two service port clustering networkings:
- To ensure high reliability, you are advised to use 1+1 networking and configure multi-active detection (MAD).
- At least two physical member ports on an LPU must be added to one logical CSS port.
- It is recommended that the cards to which uplink ports and MAD-enabled port belong be the LPUs that are not used for CSS connections.
- To connect the stack ports with optical fibers, install optical modules on the stack ports, and then connect optical fibers to the optical modules.
- To connect the stack ports with copper cables, directly connect the copper cables to the stack ports.
- Arrange the cables, route the cables through cable management frames, and bundle them with cable ties.
Keep the cable ties used to bundle cables on the same horizontal plane as the SFP+ or QSFP28 ports to reduce the impact of gravity on these ports.
- (Optional) Wrap redundant cables in cable management trays.
- Check the LINK indicator on the service cards. If the indicator is steady green, the ports are correctly connected.
To power on the switches, ensure that power cables and ground cables are correctly connected and then switch on the external power modules and built-in power modules in turn.
