Replacing an SFU
Precautions
Before replacing an SFU, read the following requirements:
- For S12700 series switches, the ET1D2SFUA000, ET1D2SFUC000, ET1D2SFUD000, and ET1D2SFUB000 cannot be installed in the same chassis. For example, an S12708 chassis cannot have both ET1D2SFUA000 and ET1D2SFUD000 installed. The chassis must be equipped with SFUs of the same type.
- For S12700E series switches, the LST7SFUEX100, LST7SFUHX100, and LST7SFUMX100 cannot be installed in the same chassis.
- When an SFU is replaced with another SFU of a different type, the registered LPUs reset once.
To install or remove an SFU, hold the bottom of the SFU with one hand and hold the front panel with the other hand. Gently push or pull the SFU.
Install an SFU slowly and horizontally to prevent it from colliding with other cards, and do not touch the components on the card.
- Before replacing a card, verify that the available power is sufficient for the new card using the display power system command. If the available power (The remain power in the command output) is smaller than the power of the new card minus the power of the old card, use power modules with higher power to replace the original ones. Otherwise, the card will fail to be powered on. It is recommended that you use the Hardware Configuration Tool to calculate the total power consumption of the switch.
- Before removing a running SFU, hold down the OFL button on the SFU until the OFL indicator blinks red or turns steady red. When the OFL indicator turns steady red indicating that the SFU is isolated from the system, you can remove the SFU. When an SFU is running normally, its RUN/ALM indicator blinks green slowly and its OFL indicator is off. Figure 13-10 shows the OFL indicator and OFL button.
- All the SFUs in the same chassis must be the same model. To replace an SFU with a different model, remove all the SFUs to be replaced, and then install the new SFU.

Procedure
- Check the location of the SFU to be replaced.
Before replacing an SFU, find the cabinet and chassis where the SFU is located. Then attach a label on the panel of the SFU to avoid misoperation.
- Take out a new SFU from the package. Check that no component on the SFU is damaged or missing.
- Wear an ESD wrist strap or a pair of ESD gloves. When wearing an ESD wrist strap, insert the other end to the ESD jack of a device and ensure that the device is reliably grounded.
- If the SFU is running, hold down the OFL button on the SFU until the OFL indicator turns red.
- Remove the old SFU from the chassis and install a new one. For details on how to remove and install a card, see Replacing a Service Card.
- View the RUN/ALM indicator status of the new SFU.
The new SFU automatically starts and registers after it is installed in the chassis. This process lasts less than 5 minutes.
- When the RUN/ALM indicator blinks green fast, the SFU is starting or resetting.
- When the RUN/ALM indicator blinks green slowly, the SFU is running normally.
- Verify the functions of the new SFU.
After installing a new SFU, check whether the SFU functions normally:
If the RUN/ALM indicator is steady red, the SFU functions abnormally.
Run the display device command to check the running status of the new SFU.
Follow-up Procedure
After replacing the SFU, collect all tools. If the replaced SFU is faulty, fill in the Repair Transmission Sheet and send the faulty module with the Repair Transmission Sheet to the equipment supplier or the specified repair service provider.
