S12700 and S12700E Series Agile Switches Hardware Installation and Component Replacement
This document describes hardware installation procedures of the S12700 series switches, troubleshooting methods for common hardware faults, and switch maintenance instructions.

Installing an S12712 and S12700E-12 Chassis
Installing an S12712 and S12700E-12 Chassis
Context
Do not block the air intake vents (left) or air exhaust vent (rear) of the switch. Do not face heat sources of other devices towards the air intake vents of the switch. Ensure that the distance between the air exhaust vents of the switch and other devices or cabinets is greater than 500 mm. Otherwise, heat dissipation of the switch will be affected.
Do not move or lift a switch by the top edges of the chassis as this may distort the chassis.
When installing a switch, ensure that the chassis bottom is completely attached to the guide rails or tray in the cabinet or rack.
If a fully configured chassis is delivered, remove cards and power modules before the installation. Install them after the chassis is installed.
Keep the tweezers delivered with the switch for future use.
Huawei offers expandable guide rails for the S12700 and S12700E series switches. You can place an order if you need them.
If you use Huawei expandable guide rails to support the chassis, use the installation template to mark the installation position directly.
If you do not use Huawei expandable guide rails to support the chassis, cut off the installation template along the cutting line marked "S12712 (Huawei expandable guide rails not used)" or "S12700E-12 (Huawei expandable guide rails not used)".
The methods for installing the S12712 and S12700E-12 chassis are the same. This section describes how to install an S12712 switch using expandable guide rails.

Scissors
Flat-head screwdriver
Phillips screwdriver
Marker
Installation template
Floating nuts and matching screws
Guide rails and matching screws (separately purchased)
Procedure
Install mounting brackets. Measure the distance a from the front mounting rails to the interior side of the front door (see Checking the Cabinet or Rack), and then install mounting brackets to the switch based on the mapping between distance a and mounting bracket installation positions.
Table 7-3 Mapping between distance a and mounting bracket installation positions
Figure 7-17 Mounting bracket installation position (a = 68 mm)
Figure 7-18 Mounting bracket installation position (a = 95 mm or a = 100 mm)
Figure 7-19 Mounting bracket installation position (a = 193 mm)
Mark mounting holes on the mounting rails.
Locate the 28 mounting holes to be used. Determine the chassis installation position in the cabinet, use the installation template to locate 28 mounting holes, and use a marker to mark these mounting holes. See Figure 7-20.
When Huawei expandable guide rails are used, you can install the chassis at the bottom of the cabinet or a multiple of 1 U above the cabinet bottom. When Huawei expandable guide rails are not used, the installation height of the chassis must be a multiple of 1 U and larger than or equal to 1 U.
1 U equals 1.75 inch (44.45 mm). U is a unit of height defined in International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 60297.
Figure 7-20 Locating mounting holes
Remove the installation template.
Mark mounting holes for the guide rails on the rear mounting rails. Align the mounting holes on the rear mounting rails with those on the front mounting rails.
Install the floating nuts and guide rails.
Use a flat-head screwdriver to install 28 floating nuts in the marked mounting holes. See callout 1 in Figure 7-21.
Install guide rails. Make the UP end of an expandable guide rail face up, hang the guide rail on the mounting rail by the hook on the guide rail, and then fix the guide rail with screws. See callout 2 in Figure 7-21. Install the other guide rail in the same way.
If no guide rails are available, use a tray instead.
Figure 7-21 Securing the guide rails
Install the chassis in the cabinet.
Three persons lift the chassis onto the guide rails from the front door, and then slowly push the chassis into the cabinet along the guide rails. See callout 1 in Figure 7-22.
While persons are pushing the chassis, another person can drag the chassis by using the handle at the rear of the chassis.
Use screws to secure the chassis to the cabinet. See callout 2 in Figure 7-22.
