Replacing a CSS Card
Context
For the S12700, a CSS card can be installed in the subcard slot of an SFU.
Do not touch the electronic components on an MPU. Install or remove an MPU slowly and horizontally.
Procedure
- Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. When wearing an ESD wrist strap, insert the other end of the strap into an ESD jack and ensure that the equipment where the ESD jack is located has been reliably grounded.
- Record the cable locations on the old CSS card and check whether the labels on the cables are correct and clear. If any label is unclear, make and attach a new label to cable to ensure correct connection.
- Remove cables from the old CSS card.
To remove a cable, release the handle on the cable connector, gently push the cable connector by the handle, and then unplug the cable.
You can use the tweezers delivered with the switch to remove the cables.
- (Optional) Remove the MPU where the old CSS card is located.
- Remove the CSS card from the MPU.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the captive screws on both ends of the CSS card. See callout 1 in Figure 13-9.
- Grasp the ejector levers of the CSS card and rotate them outward. See callout 2 in Figure 13-9.
- Hold the ejector levers and pull the CSS card slowly along the guide rails. See callout 3 in Figure 13-9.
- (Optional) Install the MPU back to the chassis. For the installation method, see Installing a Card.
- Install optical modules or network cables according to the recorded connections. See Connecting High-Speed Cables or Installing Optical Modules and Connecting Optical Fibers.
- Observe the RUN/ALM indicator on the new CSS card.
It takes less than 5 minutes for the CSS card to start and register.
- If the RUN/ALM indicator blinks green fast, the CSS card is starting.
- If the RUN/ALM indicator blinks green slowly, the CSS card is running normally.
- Verify the functions of new CSS card.
After installing the new CSS card, use either of the following methods to check whether the CSS card functions normally:
Check the RUN/ALM indicator. If the RUN/ALM indicator is steady red, the CSS card does not work normally.
Run the display device command to check the running status of the new CSS card.
Follow-up Procedure
After replacing the CSS card, collect all tools. If the replaced CSS card is faulty, fill in the Repair Transmission Sheet and send the faulty module with the Repair Transmission Sheet to the equipment supplier or the specified repair service provider.
