Installing an S12708, S12710, and S12700E-8 Chassis
Context
- Do not block the air intake vents (left) or air exhaust vent (rear) of the switch. Do not face heat sources of other devices towards the air intake vents of the switch. Ensure that the distance between the air exhaust vents of the switch and other devices or cabinets is greater than 500 mm. Otherwise, heat dissipation of the switch will be affected.
- Do not move or lift a switch by the top edges of the chassis as this may distort the chassis.
- When installing a switch, ensure that the chassis bottom is completely attached to the guide rails or tray in the cabinet or rack.
- If a fully configured chassis is delivered, remove cards and power modules before the installation. Install them after the chassis is installed.
- Keep the tweezers delivered with the switch for future use.
Huawei offers expandable guide rails for the S12700 and S12700E series switches. You can place an order if you need them.
- If you use Huawei expandable guide rails to support the chassis, cut off the installation template along the cutting line marked "S12708&S12710 (Huawei expandable guide rails used)" or "S12700E-8 (Huawei expandable guide rails used)".
- If you do not use Huawei expandable guide rails to support the chassis, cut off the installation template along the cutting line marked "S12708&S12710 (Huawei expandable guide rails not used)" or "S12700E-8 (Huawei expandable guide rails not used)".
- The methods for installing the S12708, S12710, and S12700E-8 chassis are the same. This section uses S12708 as an example to describe the installation procedure.
This section describes how to install an S12708 switch using expandable guide rails.
Tools and Accessories
- Scissors
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Phillips screwdriver
- Marker
- Installation template
- Floating nuts and matching screws
- Guide rails and matching screws (separately purchased)
- Multimeter
- Removable handles
Procedure
- Install mounting brackets. Measure the distance a from the front mounting rails to the interior side of the front door (see Checking the Cabinet or Rack), and then install mounting brackets to the switch based on the mapping between distance a and mounting bracket installation positions.Table 7-2 Mapping between distance a and mounting bracket installation positions
Mounting Bracket Installation Position
68 mm
See Figure 7-8.
95 mm
100 mm
See Figure 7-9.
193 mm
See Figure 7-10.
- Mark mounting holes on the mounting rails.
- Install the floating nuts and guide rails.
- Install the chassis in the cabinet.
- Install the removable handles on two sides of the chassis. Two persons lift the chassis using the handles several times to verify that the handles are installed correctly. See callout 1 in Figure 7-14.
- Move the chassis into the cabinet. Three persons lift the chassis onto the guide rails from the front door and slowly push the chassis into one third of the cabinet depth. Hold the chassis while removing the removable handles. Then push the chassis completely in the cabinet. See callout 2 in Figure 7-14.
- Use screws to secure the chassis to the cabinet. See callout 3 in Figure 7-14.
- Hang the handles on the handle slots at rear of the chassis. See callout 4 in Figure 7-14.
- Connect the ground cable. The methods for connecting the OT and JG terminals are different. Select a method according to the ground cable type.
- Figure 7-15 shows how to connect the OT terminal. The tightening torque for the M6 screws is 4.8N m.
- Figure 7-16 shows how to connect the JG terminal. The tightening torque for the M6 screws is 4.8N m.
