S7706,S7706 PoE and S7712 Clustering Using CSS Cards

Context

The S7706 ,S7706 PoE and S7712 switches support clustering using Cluster Switching System (CSS) cards. When using this cluster mode, the switches must have ES0D00SRUA00, ES0D00SRUB00, ES1D2SRUAC00, ES1D2SRUH000, ES1D2SRUH002, ES1D2SRUE000, or LSS7SRUHA100 main control units installed, and the main control units must have ES02VSTSA or ES1D2VS04000 CSS cards installed in their subcard slots.

The ES02VSTSA can be installed in the subcard slot of an ES0D00SRUA00, ES0D00SRUB00 or ES1D2SRUAC00. The ES1D2VS04000 can be installed in the subcard slot of an ES1D2SRUH000, ES1D2SRUH002, ES1D2SRUE000, or LSS7SRUHA100.

MPUs in one chassis must be the same model. MPUs in the local and remote chassis can be the same model or different models; however, the same MPU model is recommended. Two chassis with different SRUs can set up a CSS only in two cases: (1) SRUA in one chassis and SRUB in the other; (2) SRUH in one chassis and SRUE in the other and both chassis run V200R010C00 or a later version.

  • ES02VSTSA card is not hot swappable.
  • When installing a copper cable, optical module, or optical fiber, you can determine that it has been installed properly after hearing a click.
  • When removing a copper cable, optical module, or optical fiber, push its connector or handle slightly and then pull it out.
  • Ensure that the bend radius of the copper cables or optical fibers is greater than the minimum bend rand required. For more information, see the Hardware Description.

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves. When wearing an ESD wrist strap, ensure that the ESD wrist strap is in a close contact with your wrist, and insert the other end in the ESD jack of a cabinet/rack.
  2. Install a CSS card in the subcard slot of each main control unit, as shown in (Optional) Installing a CSS Subcard or an Enhanced Flexible Service Subcard.
  3. Install the main control units in main control slots of the switches, as shown in Installing a Card.
  4. Attach labels on both ends of the copper cables or optical fibers, with numbers 1 to 8 on the labels.
  5. Connect the stack ports with cluster cables.

    NOTE:
    • Each chassis must have both active and standby MPUs installed.
    • CSS ports on the ES02VSTSA must be connected.
    • To connect the QSFP+ stack ports with optical fibers, install QSFP+ optical modules on the stack ports, and then connect optical fibers to the optical modules.
    • To connect the QSFP+ stack ports with QSFP+ copper cables, directly connect the copper cables to the stack ports.
    • S7706 switches are used as an example here. Cable connections between S7706 PoE and S7712 switches are the same.

    • Cluster cable connections for ES1D2VS04000

    NOTE:
    • Each chassis can have only one SRU installed, and a CSS card can be installed in any MPU slot. To ensure reliability, you are advised to install two MPUs in each chassis.
    • Each ES1D2VS04000 CSS card has four ports (numbered 1 to 4). Two chassis can set up a cluster only when the following requirements are met:
      • Each chassis must have at least one CSS card installed in the subcard slot of either main control unit.
      • Two CSS cards must be connected by at least one cable. The interconnected CSS ports must have the same port number. For example, port 1 on the CSS card in one chassis must be connected to port 1 on the CSS card in the other chassis. It is recommended that you connect all the CSS ports on the CSS cards
      • Each CSS card can be connected to only one CSS card in the other chassis.
    • To connect the stack ports with optical fibers, install optical modules on the stack ports, and then connect optical fibers to the optical modules.
    • To connect the stack ports with copper cables, directly connect the copper cables to the stack ports.
    • S7706 switches are used as an example here. Cable connections between S7706 PoE and S7712 switches are the same.

  6. Arrange the cables, route the cables through cable management frames, and bundle them with cable ties.

    NOTE:

    Keep the cable ties used to bundle cables on the same horizontal plane as the SFP+ or QSFP+ ports to reduce the impact of gravity on these ports.

  7. (Optional) Wrap redundant cables in cable management trays.

  8. Check the LINK indicator on the service cards. If the indicator is steady green, the ports are correctly connected.

    To power on the switches, ensure that power cables and ground cables are correctly connected and then switch on the external power modules and built-in power modules in turn.
