This document describes hardware installation procedures of the S9300, S9300E, and S9300X series switches, troubleshooting methods for common hardware faults, and switch maintenance instructions.

Installing a Power Module

Context

  • If a switch is running a version prior to V200R010C00, it does not allow mixing of AC and DC power modules or power modules of different power values in the same type of power slots (system or PoE power slots). If the switch is running V200R010C00 or a later version, it allows mixing of 2200 W AC and DC power modules in its system power slots. If the switch is running V200R012C00 or a later version, it allows mixing of 2200 W AC, 2200 W DC, 3000 W AC , 3000 W high-voltage DC modules in its system power slots.
  • When the number of standby power modules is 0, the power modules do not work in backup mode.
  • When installed in a PoE slot, a power module becomes a PoE power module and provides power to powered devices (PDs) connected to PoE interface cards. When installed in a system power supply slot, a power module becomes a system power module and provides power to the chassis.
  • When a switch is used as a PoE switch: If the switch is running V200R005C00 or an earlier version, its PoE slots support only AC power modules and cannot have DC power modules installed. If the switch is running V200R006C00 or a later version, its PoE slots support both AC power modules and 2200 W DC power modules. If the switch is running V200R012C00 or a later version, its PoE slots support 3000 W AC power module and 3000 W high-voltage DC power module.
  • Power modules of different models cannot allow mixing in the PoE power slot.
  • S9300E, S9310, and S9300X series switches do not support 1600 W DC power modules.
  • Cover all the vacant slots with filler panels to ensure good electromagnetic shielding, heat dissipation, and dustproof performance.

Tools

  • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
  • Phillips screwdriver

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or a pair of ESD gloves. When wearing an ESD wrist strap, insert the other end in the ESD jack of a device and ensure that the device is reliably grounded.
  2. (Optional) Remove the filler panel (if any) from the power module slot.
  3. Install the power module into the power module slot.

    The S9300&S9300E&S9300X series switches support two types of power modules, as shown in a and b of Figure 8-1.

    1. Raise the ejector lever. With one hand beneath the power module, use the other hand to grasp the panel and slowly slide the power module into the slot, until the hook on the ejector lever is attached to the interior side of the power module slot. See callout 1 in Figure 8-1.
    2. Lower the ejector lever to ensure that the power module is completely seated in the slot. See callout 2 of Figure 8-1.
    3. Use a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the captive screw on the ejector lever. See callout 3 in Figure 8-1.

  4. Install filler panels on all the vacant power module slots.
