Media Stream Encryption

Media Stream Encryption

eSpace 8950 supports encryption of media streams by using 128-bit key size Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), preventing any unauthorized listening during a conversation. It is recommended that the function of SIP signaling stream encryption is also enabled, to ensure user information security. The following part describes how to set media stream transmission mode on the phone web page.

The server supports Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP).

  1. Access the phone web page as an administrator, and choose Advanced > Network.

    The Network page is displayed.

  2. Select one SRTP option. Three options are available:

    • Mandatory: The media streams are encrypted.
    • Optional: The media streams are encrypted when Mandatory or Optional is selected for the peer IP phone. The media streams are not encrypted when Disable is selected for the peer IP phone.
    • Disable: The media streams are not encrypted.
    • To ensure communication security, you are advised to select Mandatory.
    • When some peer IP phones do not support SRTP-based encryption but need to have media stream exchange with the IP phone, select Optional.
    • If you select Disable, all media data is transmitted in plaintext over the IP network, and hackers can easily intercept calls.

  3. Click Save to save the settings.
