Splitting a Consistency Group

Splitting a Consistency Group

This operation enables you to split all remote replication pairs in a consistency group simultaneously so that a full data copy is generated for each secondary LUN in each pair, facilitating report generation, test, data mining, decision making, and data recovery.

Precautions

  • Based on Running Status of a consistency group, determine whether remote replications in the consistency group can be split, as shown in Table 4-26.
Table 4-26  Status requirements for splitting remote replications in a consistency group

Running Status of a Consistency Group

Splitting Remote Replications in a Consistency Group

    Normal

    Split

    ×

    Interrupted (Link down)

√(Can be performed only on the primary device of a consistency group.)

    Interrupted (Link up)

    To be recovered

    Invalid

    ×

    Synchronizing

    √: Able to operate.

    ×: Unable to operate.

  • When synchronous consistency groups are splitting, if the storage system has a controller reset, which may cause synchronization failure in some remote replication tasks, the consistency groups cannot guarantee data consistency.

Procedure

  1. Go to the consistency group management page.
    1. On the right navigation bar, click .

The data protection page is displayed.

    2. In the left function pane, click Remote Replication.
    3. Click the Remote Replication Consistency Group tab.

The consistency group management page is displayed.

  2. Right-click the consistency group you want to split and choose Split.

The security alert dialog box is displayed.

  3. Confirm the operation.
    1. Confirm information in the dialog box. Then select I have read and understood the consequences associated with performing this operation. and click OK.
    2. Click OK.

The Success message box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

    3. Click OK.
