Why Is an Error Message Displayed During VLANIF Interface Creation?

Why Is an Error Message Displayed During VLANIF Interface Creation?

Fault Symptom

When a user attempts to create a VLANIF interface, the system displays an error message. As a result, the VLANIF interface fails to be created.

Possible Causes

  • No VLAN is created on the device.
  • The VLAN corresponding to the VLANIF interfaces is a dynamic, control, or reserved VLAN.

Procedure

  1. Check the error message during VLANIF interface creation.

Rectify the fault according to the error message. See Table 29-56.

Table 29-56  Fault rectification according to the error message

    Message

    Cause Analysis and Check Method

    Solution

Error: The VLAN does not exist.

The VLAN is not created on the device.

Run the display vlan summary command to check whether the value of the static vlan field is the VLAN corresponding to the VLANIF interface.

Run the vlan vlan-id command to create a VLAN corresponding to the VLANIF interface and then create a VLANIF interface.

Error: The VLAN is used by XXX.

    NOTE:

XXX indicates a feature, such as SEP, or GVRP.

The VLAN corresponding to the VLANIF interfaces is a dynamic, control, or reserved VLAN.

Run the display vlan summary command to check whether the value of the dynamic vlan or reserved vlan field is the VLAN corresponding to the VLANIF interface.

Create a VLANIF interface corresponding to another VLAN.

  2. If the fault persists, collect alarms and logs and contact Huawei technical support personnel.
