A Card Fails to Register After a Software Upgrade

Fault Description

A card works normally in the old system software version. After the system software is upgraded, the card indicator is steady red, and the card fails to register.

  • If a card registers successfully, the Register field in the display device command output displays Registered.

5 8FE1GE Present PowerOn Unregistered NA NA

Possible Causes

  • The card was removed and reinstalled before the upgrade but was not securely connected to the backplane.

  • The card software is upgraded after the system software is upgraded. During the card software upgrade, the router is powered off, causing an upgrade failure.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. Remove the card and check whether any pins on the backplane connector are bent. Ensure that the card can be securely connected to the backplane.
    NOTE:

Use a flashlight when checking the backplane connector.

  2. Contact technical support personnel through Collecting Information and Contacting Technical Support and restore the card software under their help.

A card software upgrade takes about 8 minutes. Ensure that the router is not powered off during the upgrade.
