More information

Some protocol packets, such as FTP packets, may carry IP addresses or port numbers in the data portion, which cannot be translated by the NAT server. These protocol packets require special processing to ensure normal protocol interaction. The NAT ALG function is a commonly used approach to implement NAT traversal for such protocols. This function translates IP addresses and port numbers in data portions of IP packets according to address translation rules. In this way, transparent relay is implemented for the protocol packets.

Currently, the NAT ALG function is applicable to the FTP, DNS, SIP, PPTP, and RTSP protocols.
