PSE Cannot Detect a PD

This section describes the troubleshooting flowchart and provides a step-by-step troubleshooting procedure for the failure to detect a powered device (PD).

Common Causes

This fault is commonly caused by one of the following:

  • The PSE is not grounded.
  • The network cable between the power source equipment (PSE) and the powered device (PD) is damaged.
  • The PD fails.
  • The PSE does not support the PD.

Troubleshooting Flowchart

A PD is connected to a port of the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600. After the display poe power-state slot slot-id command is run on the port, the command output shows that the port is in detecting state.

Figure 14-3 shows the troubleshooting flowchart.

Troubleshooting Procedure


Saving the results of each troubleshooting step is recommended. If troubleshooting fails to correct the fault, you will have a record of your actions to provide Huawei technical support personnel.


  1. Check whether the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600 is grounded.
    • If the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600 is not grounded, ground the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600.

    • If the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600 is grounded, go to step 2.


    The network cable may undergo interference signals, for example, from a high-power base station. If the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600 is not grounded, the interference signals may affect the detection signals in the network cable. In this case, the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600 cannot detect the PD, and hence cannot provide power for the PD.

  2. Check whether the network cable between the PD and AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600 functions properly.
    • If the network cable is damaged, replace it.

    • If the network cable functions properly, go to step 3.

  3. Check whether the PD functions properly.

    Connect the PD to another working port, and run the display poe power-state slot slot-id command to check the port status. If the port is in Delivering-power state, the previous port is faulty. If this port is still in Detecting state, the PD is faulty.

    • If the PD is faulty, replace the PD.

    • If the PD functions properly, go to step 4.

  4. Check that the compatibility test function is enabled on the PSE.

    Run the display this command on the interface connected to the PD to check whether the compatibility test function is enabled.

    • If the compatibility test function is not enabled, run the poe legacy enable command to enable this function.
    • If the compatibility test function is enabled, go to step 5.
  5. Collect the following information and contact technical support personnel:

    • Results of the preceding troubleshooting procedure
    • Configuration file, log file, and alarm file of the AR100&AR120&AR150&AR160&AR200&AR1200&AR2200&AR3200&AR3600
