Communication on an E1 Interface Is Abnormal

Fault Description

The protocol status of an E1 interface flaps between Up and Down, and traffic statistics on the interface show many CRC-error packets.

Run the display interface Serial command in the system view to check the state and packet statistics on the E1 interface.

Possible Causes

  • The E1 interface card is not reliably grounded.

  • There are electromagnetic interference sources, such as an electric motor, transformer, and electric generator, near the E1 line.

  • The E1 line is deployed outdoors, and the E1 interface is damaged by lightning.

  • The E1 interface impedance is different from the cable impedance.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. A ground cable is delivered with the chassis in the package. Use this ground cable to connect the ground point on the chassis to an equipotential terminal in the equipment room. Ensure that the local and remote devices are on an equipotential plane.
  2. Keep the E1 line away from electromagnetic interference sources.
  3. If the E1 interface is damaged by lightning, contact technical support personnel through Collecting Information and Contacting Technical Support for repair service.
  4. The impedance of an E1 interface can be set to 120 ohm (requiring 120-ohm balanced cables) or 75 ohm (requiring 75-ohm unbalanced cables). Ensure that the cables used on the E1 interface match the impedance of the interface.
    • Use the following command to set the impedance of the E1 interface:
