Abstract

When a fault occurs on the main interface and the backup interface is automatically switched, you need to test whether the NQA test can be successfully configured on the backup interface. The test result shows that the configuration is successful but the network is disconnected every 45 minutes.

Symptom

As shown in Figure1, RouterA functions as the NQA client. The main interface and IP address of RouterA are set to GE1/0/0 and 10.1.1.1, and the backup interface and IP address are set to GE1/0/1 and 10.1.1.2. GE1/0/0 has a higher priority that provides backup services when a fault occurs on the main interface. The interface and IP address of RouterB are set to GE1/0/0 and 10.1.1.2. The ICMP jitter test instance is created on RouterA. When a fault occurs on the main interface, the backup interface is automatically switched to test jitter between RouterA and RouterB on the network.

Procedure

  1. Configure the IP address of RouterA.

  2. Configure the IP address of RouterB.

  3. Enable the NQA client and create an ICMP jitter NQA test instance.

  4. Configure the interval at which the NQA test instance automatically runs.

  5. Configure the aging time for the NQA test instance.

  6. Start the test.

After the preceding steps are performed, the network is disconnected every 45 minutes, and the NQA test does not take effect.

Cause Analysis

Before the NQA test is started, the status of interfaces on the peer device is Up, but the association between interface backup and NQA is disabled. After the NQA test is started, a fault occurs on the main interface during service transmission. Service transmission cannot be switched from the main interface to the backup interface, and OSPF routes and data packets on the peer device are normally sent to the main interface. As a result, the transmission route is incorrect and network jitter is abnormal.

Conclusions and Suggestions

In this scenario, the following two methods are provided, and you are advised to use the first method.

  • Method 1: Disable the backup interface, run the standby track nqa command to enable association between interface backup and NQA, and then run the undo shutdown command to enable the backup interface.
  • Method 2: Set the value of the frequency parameter in Step 5 to 15 seconds. In this case, the test interval is shorter, and the active/standby switchover status can be monitored in time.
