An E1 Interface Cannot Go Up Physically

Fault Description

An E1 interface cannot go Up physically. The interface status is as follows:

<Huawei> display interface Serial 3/0/0

Line protocol current state : DOWN
Description:HUAWEI, AR Series, Serial3/0/0 Interface 
Route Port,The Maximum Transmit Unit is 1500, Hold timer is 10(sec)
Internet protocol processing : disabled
Link layer protocol is PPP
LCP initial
Timeslot(s) Used: 1-31,  baudrate is 1984000 bps

Possible Causes

  • Pin assignments of the cable are incorrect.

Troubleshooting Procedure

  1. If coaxial cables are used on the E1 interface, swap the Tx end and Rx cables.
  2. If balanced cables are used, check whether pin assignments in the cables are correct.
    • Pin assignments in the DB9 connector on the E1 interface card: wire 1 and wire 2 for receiving; wire 6 and wire 7 for transmitting
    • Pin assignments in the RJ45 connector of balanced cables: wire 1 and wire 2 for transmitting; wire 4 and wire 5 for receiving
